Semester 2 – First Few Days

It is always awesome getting to meet some new students and introduce them in the world of Construction and Design. During the first class we went over an introduction, the course outline, brief tour, and saw some examples of past work.

The students are asked to show you the course outline and either have you email me, or print it off and then return it signed so that I know it has been seen. You can click here to go to the course outline. I asked for this to be done by the following dates:

  • 7A, 8A, 9A – Tuesday February 10
  • 7B, 8B, 9C – Wednesday, February 11
  • 7C, 8C, 9C – Tuesday, February 17

Life Skills 9-23

Please make sure that you bring your completed practice high school registration forms with you to the next class.

Also, you will need to have completed the rough draft of your resume as we will be working with this. For more information please see the post from December 16.

Construction & Design – End of Semester 1

I was very impressed by the quality and variety of work completed by the students at all three grade levels especially since I was not sure what to expect.

The students had an opportunity to reflect on their learning with respect to the creating, appraising, and communicating outcomes of the CTF curriculum. I used this information along with the information assessment data that I collected all semester to generate an evaluation for the students. We took the time to then interview one on one and the students had the chance to inform me of the grades that they think they have earned and also why they feel as though they have earned them. The purpose of this was to come to a consensus on the learning that occurred.

If you have questions regarding this process then please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Lang

Life Skills 9-23

We continued exploring resume writing. Today you were asked to sort and group all of the information you wrote done pertaining to

  • past experiences (work related as well if you have any)
  • education
  • skills
  • hobbies/interests

You were given this sheet on action verbs to help you with ways of beginning the phrases on your resume. From here we looked at the three main resume formats.

The task that you are given is to work on a rough version of your resume by following this template from the Government of Canada for a writing a hybrid resume. Try your best to be as accurate as possible. Put as much in there as you can and we will filter it out after. There is lots of great information on this site to help guide you as well.

Construction & Design 7-9

Remember once you finish a project you are required to either meet with me to do the interview where we discuss the creating, appraising, and communicating outcomes, or answer the questions on your own time. Here is a link with the questions that I am asking during the interview and also the instructions on what I am looking for. Remember that you can record your voice, film yourself talking about these, do a normal written piece, or anything else that works for you as long as they are all covered.

So we have finally been able to start looking at how to get a job. For next class please do some rapid idea generation and come up with as many ideas that you can, remember we are looking for quantity not quality, around the following topics related to your resume:

  • past experiences (work related as well if you have any)
  • education
  • skills
  • hobbies/interests

We will be working with this next class.

The Other Outcomes – Creating, Appraising, & Communicating

Please remember that once you are finished a project you can either come in and talk to me to discuss the creating, appraising, and communicating outcomes, or you can answer the questions that I am asking during the interview on your own time in a format that you think showcases your learning (written response, audio recording, video recording, poster, collage, song, skit, etc). Please make sure that you hand in / share your responses if you are doing it on your own.

Here is a link with the questions that I am asking during the interview and also the instructions on what I am looking for.

I also need to take a photograph or video recording of your project so that I have documentation of what you have done and also to show off your amazing work with other students, schools, and school boards.
