7-01 & 7-07
- Tomorrow will be the last class time given to complete your short stories. Today you should have been finishing typing up your second draft or spending the time self editing or peer editing your short stories. Tomorrow we will continue this step though I would recommend using the time tomorrow to make any changes that were noted on your second draft. On Friday May 27 you will be handing in all of your planning (character questions, plot chart/outline/plan, anything else) and your first draft (rough copy) that has been edited and proofread, second draft (typed) that has been edited and proofread, and your published copy. Please remember to look at the rubrics and your workshop duo-tang for any guidance.
- Please make sure that you have included the railway on your maps that connected Canada in 1885 (use pages 246 & 324). Please also include the main cities that the railway passed through. Be as accurate as possible and remember all that we discussed yesterday about how to properly complete a map.
- I handed out you final Humanities project for the term. For tomorrow please come with an idea of which country you will be researching and also how you plan on sharing your immigration story. Starting Monday May 30 you will be given double periods to work on this. The due date is Friday June 3.
9-29
- Today we spent the time writing a PAT Field Test. I have put your scored into D2L but please note that they are not being counted towards your mark. The purpose of doing the test was to give you experience doing a PAT and to let you see how the questions are worded and what is involved. As you can tell there was not a lot of regurgitation of information but you were expected to interpret and synthesize information. I hope that it is now more clear to you why I approached your Grade 9 Social Studies course the way I did. Remember, it is about how your apply your knowledge not just what you remembered.
- I scored it out of 38 instead of 40 because there were two questions that I were worded awkwardly or did not make sense to me.
- Once the real exam is written in June the province looks at the scores and determines what the “acceptable” range is as well as the “excellent” range. Therefore, you can get below 50% but still be considered within the acceptable range.
- Based on percentage the class average was around 68% which I thought was impressive considering we spent no class time preparing for the exam and I am guessing that the majority of you did not spend time on your own really preparing for it either since you were just told about it a few days ago. I am sure that most of you will be able to improve your performance by reviewing the material before the test on Monday June 27.
