Monday October 22

Please remember that there is no school this Thursday or Friday because of Student Led Conferences. Please remember that this round of conferences are student led and not parent / teacher. This means that your child must attend as they will be discussing and showcasing their learning with you.

8-23

  • We finished the presentations today which was great to see. I will do my best to get these assessed and back to you.
  • We will begin working on our public speaking and presentation skills as well as exploring the world of APA referencing

9-27

  • Today we explored the world of “analogies” because after giving you the “What do you know about poetry?” quiz I realized that there were a number of missing items. This was also reflected in your editorial/political cartoons. Here is a link to some practice on analogies.
  • Tomorrow we will be discussing the due date for the Captain Canuck project as I think it will be changed to a later date to accomodate your learning needs.

Robotics

  • Please have the design process completed for the “mechanical item that solves a problem” for Monday October 29. Below are the steps of the design process incase you forgot
    • Think about the task (Create a mechanical item that solves a problem)
    • Write down the purpose (eg. Create something that moves forward in a straight line)
    • Come up with your concepts/ideas (Needs to be more than one)
    • Make sketches / drawings of your concepts from at least two different perspectives (top, side, bottom, etc)
    • Discuss the concepts with your group and select the one that is best suited to solvign your problem. Explain why you selected the concept that you do.
    • Once this is all done you can begin to build your concept.
