Thank You for Being Awesome

I hope that everyone had an excellent year. If I don’t see you tomorrow then have an amazing summer and I look forward to having many of you in my class next year.

Mr. Lang

June 18, 19, & 20

We are just finishing last minute things up. Please remember

  • Locker clean out on Friday
  • Exams begin next week.
  • Continue to be awesome

June 13, 16, & 17

Robotics 8A

  • Students continued working on their final projects which are due next class, Wednesday, June 18, while we watched the World Cup.

Robotics 8B

  • Students continued working on their final projects which are due next class, Thursday, June 19, while we watched the World Cup.

Robotics 8C

  • Only one class left to finish building and testing your sumobots. We will be competing next class.

Robotics 9

  • We began watching i-Robot as a culminating activity. Some students continued to work on their projects and others started disassembling what they had done.

June 10, 11, & 12

Robotics 8A

  • We continued working on the final project. Make sure to demonstrate your ability to utilize the tools in Sketchup to effectively showcase your design. The design needs to be to scale, and both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Robotics 8B

  • Very few people are asking for help or guidance on your final project. This could mean one of two things either you get it, or you are completely lost. Please make sure to let me know if I can help out in any way.

Robotics 8C

  • There was no class today because of the Grade 9 Farewell. I encourage those of you that want to get ahead and want to see your project come through to reality should likely come in before school, at lunch, or after school so that it can get finished.

Robotics 9

  • There are not many classes left so please make sure that your work is focused. I see some very cool things happening and look forward to what many of you will end up with.

June 5, 6, & 9

Robotics 8A

  • Today the students continued working on their prototype which is due on Monday, June 9.
  • They were also given the requirements for their final project.
    • You can design anything you want including, rooms, buildings, products, or pretty much anything you can think of. Remember that this is your final project so you do want to show off. Your design needs to show the proper use of the following tools or skills:
      • Line tool
      • Freehand tool
      • Arc tool
      • Rectangle tool
      • Circle tool
      • Push/Pull tool
      • Follow Me tool
      • 3D Text tool
      • Text tool
      • Push/Pull an arc
      • Push/Pull a rectangle
      • Push/Pull a circle
    • Please make sure to label one example of how you used each of these tools or skills in your design.
    • Your design should also be aesthetically pleasing and all of the  components should look like they belong / fit together.

Robotics 8B

  • Finished off our All About Me project and began working on the final project. There are only three classes left to work on this.

Robotics 8C

  • Continued working on the NXT Checklist. Some groups began working on the advanced final projects. Remember that we only have two classes left because of the Grade 9 Farewell on Thursday. You may want to come in before school, at lunch, or after school to get more work done.

Robotics 9

    • Continued working on your group selected projects.
    • Remember to update your webpage each class. This is done as a group.

June 2, 3, & 4

There are only five classes left before the end of the year counting this one. Make sure that you are staying focused and keeping up with your work in Robotics & Design.

Lifeskills 9-21

Robotics 8A

  • We continue working on the Prototype assignment. I would recommend trying to finish this up after next class so that you can begin working on your final project as we are getting closer to the end of the year.
  • Remember that you need to double check your design to ensure that there are no issues such as holes, zero thickness wall, or misaligned pieces if you are wanting me to try and print it.

Robotics 8B

  • We continued working on the “All About Me” introductory Scratch assignment. The purpose of this is to have you start figuring out some of the tools. You will have some of next class to work on this as well. Below is the criteria for this:
    • At least 3 things about yourself
    • At least one clickable thing
    • An image of yourself
    • At least one movement
    • At least one custom sprite or background
    • At least one sound
    • Another way of interacting with your presentation
  • This due by midnight on Monday, June 9

Robotics 8C

  • We continued working on the NXT checklist though some of you are likely ready to start planning your final project.

Robotics 9

  • Continued working on your group selected projects. Starting to see some cool ideas coming together.
  • Remember to update your webpage each class.

May 28, 29, & 30

Robotics 8A

  • Please make sure that your first assignment is in your Google Drive folder by Friday.
  • We started working on the prototype assignment. Remember that if you don’t like any of my ideas you are welcome to design something useful for yourself. Please come and talk to me first.

Robotics 8B

  • We wrote the HTML assessment today and some of you realized that you may have been able to do the coding but that you did not really understand how it works.
  • We began looking at Scratch, an online programming tool to teach student the theory behind coding. As part of this they were given the “All About Me” assignment.

Robotics 8C

  • We continued working on the NXT Checklist. Some of you have made it further than I had expected in one class which is awesome to see. I look forward to what you will be able to create in the upcoming classes.

Robotics 9

  • Please make sure your Lego 3D design is handed in to your Google Drive folder by Friday if you want me to assess it. Remember to send me an email so that I will check it.
  • Please come to next class with your plan / design finished, if you have not already done so, so that you can discuss it with me and then start building.
  • You have also been given access to your Google Site Webpage so that you can begin doing your daily group appraisal and reflection.
  • If you have not yet completed your self and peer reflection please get it done by Friday as I will be looking for these on the weekend.

May 23, 26, & 27

Robotics 8A

  • Today we continued working on our first assignment. Those of you that were finished may have started to work on your prototype design.

Robotics 8B

  • Today you were given more time to finish working on the CodeCademy HTML lessons. You will have an assessment on the 14 lessons in HTML Basics 1.

Robotics 8C

  • We had the fastest robot race and there was definitely some close races.
  • For next class please make sure to complete your reflection / appraisal. Here are the questions I had talked about today: Think about your design. What worked, what didn’t work, what would you change, what worked for others, why were some faster than others. If you would like to do this in Google Drive please remember to put it in the folder that you created.

Robotics 9

  • Finishing up designing our custom Lego piece or making a 3D version of a Lego piece. Remember that if you would like me to assess it please but it in your folder.
  • Next class we are going to start working on the robotics again and you may want to come up with your plan / design at home. I have changed the process for this so make sure you look closely at the Planning / Design sheet. The reason I did this was based on student feedback on what should be included.
  • Many of you have not done your self & peer reflection. I will looking at these this weekend. To get to it remember to go to Google Sites, go to the Robotics & Design site, and then click on the Self & Peer Reflection tab.
