May 20, 21, & 22

Robotics 8A

  • Today we continued working on our first Sketchup Project. Make sure that your measurements are accurate and that everything is to scale. I will let you know what your next assignment is for those of you that are ready to start that.

Robotics 8B

  • Today we finished our Program a Human assignments and started to work on CodeCademy. You will be continuing this work next class and will have an assessment on it the class after that.

Robotics 8C

  • We started working on building the fastest robot. Remember that everyone will be using the same program so the importance of this is to focus on your design. You needed more time so we will race these next class.

Robotics 9A

  • Many of you finished your Sketchup assignments so next class we will be going back and working on the Robotics. I encourage you to come to class with your design / plans completed or at least with an idea of where you would like to go to next.

Robotics 9B & 9C

  • We are a bit behind so I am doing a crash course in Sketchup to give you an introduction so that you could begin producing 3D items if you wanted to.

May 13, 14, & 15

Robotics 8A

  • Today we began our last module which is 3D design. Some of you got of to an awesome start and already starting working on your first project.
  • Please come prepared next class to either design a personal accessory, such as a ring or pendant, or to create a 3d digital version of something that you bring from home. What you choose should be based on your comfort level using Sketchup.

Robotics 8B

  • Today we started working on programming by looking at how to break items into smaller steps.
  • Your task was to take a simple task a create instructions for a human robot. Remember that you want to leave nothing up to interpretation. You will have time next week to work on this as well.

Robotics 8C

  • Today we began our final module. However, we first had to sort our kits so that we had all of the supplies needed.
  • Be started to design and build the fastest robot possible. We will be continuing this next week.

Robotics 9A & 9B

  • Please make sure that your peer and self reflection are completed by next class.
  • Today we started playing around with Sketchup. Remember that you can download it for free at home from this link.
  • Some of you already started creating a 3D version of your lego piece or began coming up with your own design. We will be continuing this next class.

Robotics 9C

  • Today we were showcasing what we had been working on over the last while. Some really cool ideas.
  • Please complete the Peer & Self Evaluation on the Google Site that I shared with you.
  • Next we will be moving on to doing some 3D design. Feel free to download Sketchup Make as it is free for both the PC and Mac platforms.
  • If you are planning on picking a new project I recommend that you start working on your plan / design so that when we start this up again in a few classes you will be ready to go.

May 8, 9, & 12

Robotica 8A

  • Today we showed off all of our hard work. I was super impressed by the designs and what you were able to come up with in such a short time. We will be moving on to 3D design next class. Feel free to download Sketchup Make as it is free for both the PC and Mac platforms.

Robotics 8B

  • Today was the last class to work on your final Sketchup project. Please make sure that it is handed in. Next class we will be starting to look at programming though if you would like to get a head start check out CodeCademy and Scratch.

Robotics 8C

  • Today was the last class to work on our games or useful tools. Please make sure that this is handed in today. Next class we are going to start looking at and using the NXT kits. The software is new this year and if you want a home version you can get it from here.

Robotics 9A & 9B

May 5, 6, & 7

Please make sure that you are checking your progress through Home Logic as there are a number of you that are missing assignments or have received a grade of insufficient on some of your assignments.

Robotics 8A

  • You will have a single period on Thursday to finish building, programming, and testing your robot before we showcase the work that you have done.
  • After this will will be starting to look at 3D design.

Robotics 8B

  • We continued working on our final design projects. Remember to think about everything that we have discussed in class to ensure that your work is of the highest quality. Look back at previous posts to find the list of required elements.
  • This is due on Friday, May 9

Robotics 8C

  • I am seeing some very impressive things with regards to your Scratch project. Remember that you will have one more class to complete this, on Monday, May 12 and it is due that day.

Robotics 9

  • This is the last class that you have to work on your advanced project before you show off your work. Remember that my class is open before school, at lunch, and after school on most days so there is time you can work on it outside of class if you wish.
  • If you are not finished then you will have the opportunity to complete this after this showcase if you wish.

April 30, May 1, & 2

Robotica 8A

  • You only have two classes left to finish your robots before we have our competition because after that we will be switching to the last module.

Robotics 8B

  • We began working on the final project today. This is due on Friday, May 9.

Robotics 8C

  • Most students started on their final project. This is due on Monday, May 12

Robotics 9

  • There are no complimentary classes because of the Grade 9 Trip week.

April 25, 28, & 29

Robotics 8A

  • Awesome job today working on the checklist as most of you have now made it on to the planning / design stage for the advanced project.
  • Please try and finish your plan / design for next class so that I can go over it with you.

Robotics 8B

  • Today was the last class time officially given to work on your prototype. It is due on Wednesday, April 30.
  • You were introduced to your final project. You can design anything you want including, rooms, buildings, products, or pretty much anything you can think of. Remember that this is your final project so you do want to show off. Your design needs to show the proper use of the following tools or skills:
    • Line tool
    • Freehand tool
    • Arc tool
    • Rectangle tool
    • Circle tool
    • Push/Pull tool
    • Follow Me tool
    • 3D Text tool
    • Text tool
    • Push/Pull an arc
    • Push/Pull a rectangle
    • Push/Pull a circle
  • Please make sure to label one example of how you used each of these tools or skills in your design.
  • Your design should also be aesthetically pleasing and all of the  components should look like they belong / fit together.

Robotics 8C

  • We continued working on the All About Me Scratch Presentations. Remember that this is due by Friday, May 2
  • I also introduced the final project. We will discuss this more next class as many of you were not quite there yet.

Robotics 9A

  • I believe most groups could benefit from having more time to complete their advanced projects. As a result you will be given one more class before we start looking at Sketchup.

Robotics 9B & 9C

  • There are no complimentary classes because of the Grade 9 Trip week.

April 22, 23, & 24

Robotics 8A

  • Most of you have finished, or are close to finishing stage two of the skills checklist. I encouraged all of you to pick up one of the design/planning sheets so you can do this at home and come to class prepared on Friday.

Robotics 8B

  • We discussed some ways to approach your work when focusing on design. After we continued working on the prototype project that is currently due on Wednesday, April 30. However, after seeing the level of progress that many of you have made you will like have more time to complete this.

Robotics 8C

  • Today we officially began working on the “All About Me” introductory Scratch assignment. The purpose of this is to have you start figuring out some of the tools. You will have next class to work on this as well. Below is the criteria for this:
    • At least 3 things about yourself
    • At least one clickable thing
    • An image of yourself
    • At least one movement
    • At least one custom sprite or background
    • At least one sound
    • Another way of interacting with your presentation

Robotics 9

  • Today is the second of three classes that you will have to finish your advanced stage. If required I can provide more time though most of you said you would not need it.
  • I continue to be impressed by how well many of you are working together and also your ability to troubleshoot.
  • Your plan/design for the advanced project is due Friday, April 25

April 14, 15, & 16

Robotics 8A

  • We continued working on the NXT checklist. Many of you are getting closer to completing it and moving on to the advanced stage.

Robotics 8B

  • Your first project, accessory or duplicate, is due Thursday, April 17.
  • For those of you that are done you can go on to the next project which is creating a prototype. You may come up with your own idea or you may design a phone/tablet holder, a solution for the cables in the laptop carts, or a pencil holder.

Robotics 8C

  • We finished the HTML assessment and some of you seemed to really enjoy being able to code. Remember that this is just an introduction so feel free to explore this more on your own time.
  • We began looking at Scratch and will be starting an assignment next class.

Robotics 9

  • We have two, or maybe three, more classes left before we showcase our advanced projects. Some of you may need to try and find some time to come in to work on your robotics outside of class time.
  • Your plan/design for the advanced project is due Friday, April 25
