April 9, 10, & 11

Robotics 8A

  • We starting working on the NXT Checklist after building a quick test robot.

Robotics 8B

  • We continued working on our personal accessories or replications of the items that we brought in. Next class you will be given your next assignment as some of you are finished or close to it.
  • When handing in files please make sure to put them in your Google Drive folder that you have already shared with me. If you are not sure what I am talking about please ask as I have gone over this a number of times.

Robotics 8C

  • Today you were given time to finish the Basic HTML Tutorials in CodeCademy. Next class you will have a few minutes to review and ask questions about anything that you were confused about.
  • You will be assessed on Wednesday, April 17. The assessment will be based on the information and skills that were covered.

Robotics 9

  • We are all still at different stages. However, I would recommend that you the Design/Planning on your own time so that when you come to class you can use your class time to build and program as you are not able to do that at home.

April 4, 7, & 8

Robotics 8A

  • Some impressive robots today in the competition. I was impressed by the work that all of you did especially those of you that had never used the Mindstorm kits before.
  • For next class please make sure to complete your reflection / appraisal. Here are the questions I had on the board today: Think about your design. What worked, what didn’t work, what would you change, what worked for others, why were some faster than others. If you would like to do this in Google Drive please remember to put it in the folder that you created.

Robotics 8B

  • Today we began working on the duplicate or accessory assignments. I hope that everyone is starting to find Sketchup a bit easier to use. Remember that it takes time and we are not looking for or expecting perfection. This is just an introduction and the more that you use the tools the better you will become at this.

Robotics 8C

  • You were given time today to continue working on the “Program a Human” assignment. This will be do on Thursday, April 10.
  • I also introduced Codecademy and asked you to begin going through the HTML & CSS – Basic HTML Tutorial. We will be continuing this on Friday.

Robotics 9

  • We continued working on the EV3 Checklists. All groups are now starting to work with the sensors and some have moved on to the advanced projects.
    • For the advanced project you are to complete the planning sheet with your group. I shared this with you when you did the Fastest Robot reflection / appraisal. I will go over this more next class.

April 1, 2, & 3

Robotics 8A

  • Today we began the Robotics module by trying to design the fastest robot possible. We will continue this next class and then finish it by racing what we have designed.

Robotics 8B

  • Today we began looking at 3D using the program Sketchup. You can download it here for free on both the Mac and PC platforms.
  • I recommend that you try and finish the four tutorials that I shared with you before next class. However, if you are not able to then you will have time next class to finish them.
  • Your first project will be to either create a personal accessory for yourself or else to duplicate and create a 3D digital version of an object you brought from home.
    • I recommend that everyone brings an object from home so that you are able to decide which project you would like to take on.

Robotics 8C

  • Today we began our programing module by creating an instruction list for a human to be able to complete a simple task. The problem is that the human only understands basic commands. Please try to finish this for next class though you will have a few minutes to do some last minute changes and test runs if needed. I was absent for this class so please email me if you have any questions.

Robotics 9

  • We continued working on the EV3 checklists. Some groups are making some amazing progress and seemed to have figured out the basics.

March 19, 20, & 31

Naming Files: When you hand in files please make sure that the name of the file corresponds to the assignment so that I know what I should be looking at (Prototype.skp, All About Me.sb2, Fastest Robot Appraisal, etc)

LifeSkills 9-21

  • Please finish your Human Sexuality STI presentation for Wednesday, April 16. You will not have any class to work on this so please arrange this with your group. Your presentation should include:
    • The name of the STI
    • The type of infection it is
    • Signs & symptoms including images
    • Long and short term impacts on the body
    • If there is a cure
    • How to get the STI

  • Today we continued working on the NXT Checklist. I hope that you are starting to figure out how to use the sensors as we will be trying to finish Stage 2 on Friday so that we can begin working on the more advanced projects.

Robotics 8C

  • I think many of you are starting to get the hang of this. We spent the class working on designing and creating something that could be considered useful. The three options I gave you, if you do not want to come up with your own, are creating a cable organization tool for the laptop carts; a device that will hold up a phone or a tablet; or something that will stop you from losing your pen or pencil. You will have more time to work on this next class. This is due on Wednesday, March 12

Robotics 9A

  • We spent some time trying to finish our racing robots. The quality of the builds ranged from impressive to something that really did not go anywhere. However, I hope that everyone had a chance to explore some of the parts and also how to build using the Mindstorms. The focus was on design, and the designs did vary a fair amount which was neat to see.
  • For Friday, March 7 please finish the appraisal / reflection for this. I have shared the file with all of you in Google Drive. Please remember that the questions at the bottom of the second page are just there to guide your thoughts.
    • Most of you will likely do this as  a paragraph response but remember feel free to respond to this and share your learning in any way that you like.
  • If you are handing something in digitally then please put it in your Google Drive folder, otherwise bring it to class and hand it in the bin.
    • Your folder should be named as follows (your name – 9A). Remember to create this go into Google Drive, click on “Create” and then “Folder”. Once you have made this please share it with me by right clicking on the folder, and then “Share” You will add my email address, [email protected], under invite, and please give me editing privileges.

Robotics 9B

  • I am super impressed with some of the work that you are doing using Scratch. It seems as though most of you are enjoying this. It is an introduction to coding and I hope that you can transfer the skills to your other classes.
    • This is due on Saturday, March 8 by Midnight. Please make sure that you put it in your Google Drive folder.
