Marks Updated

I apologize, but I forgot to to put a post on here informing everyone that the marks were updated as of Thursday Nov 13. The marks that you see when you look online will be very close to what shows up on your report card. In some instances some of your marks may appear higher than they do online. If you have any questions, concerns, or if something does not look right please make sure that you talk to me so we can figure things out.

I will not be updating the marks online, to reflect the second term, until after the report cards are recieved so that you are able to still see your first term marks.

7-1

  • Some of you have still not handed in your “natural versus manufactured structures collage.” Please make sure it gets in because it was due on Friday Nov 14
  • Also, I am still waiting for some of you to hand in your broken line graphs, bar graphs, and pictographs about the average monthly temperature in Calgary
  • Straw bridges need to be ready to go for tomorrow. You will have 10 to 20 minutes of class time to finish them tomorrow.

7-2

  • A reminder that your next reading response journal is due on Wednesday Nov 26
  • Rough copy of memoirs is due on Tue Nov 25 (We have been working on these for around a month so you should not have much to finish by Tuesday. Also you will have class time this Thursday to work on them.
  • First Nations Expert Group notes – due Fri Nov 21. You have now had close to five full periods of time to work on this. If you are behind then it is your responsibility to get it finished.

Video Production

  • Finish your filming because you are behind if you are still working on this. All editing will need to be finished by the end of class on Monday Nov 24 because we will be watching the videos during the next class.

I will not be collecting anymore marks after 3:30 today for the first report card as my marks have to be in tomorrow. The students have been aware of this for two weeks now and they were also informed of any assignments that they were missing. They have also been told that my expectations are going to go up as many of the students are handing in work that is well grade 7 expectations. Below is my description for each letter grade:

A+ – the student has done everything that is asked in the assignment at a very high level and has also done extra work, also done at a very high level, that further exemplifies their understanding of the topic.

A – the studnet has done everything that is asked in the assignment at a high level and has also done extra work, also done at a high level, that further exemplifies their understanding of the topic.

B – the student has done everything that is asked in the assignment at a high level.

C – the student has done everything that is asked in the assignment.

D – the student has not done everything that is asked in the assignment or the work that was done was done below grade level expectations.

NR – the student has failed to complete the assignments or has completed the assignment well below grade level expectations.

I truly believe that all of the students in my classes should be able to achieve at the C level if they complete all of their work and put forth some effort on this work.

  • Broken line graphs and bar graphs will be checked for completion tomorrow Thursday Nov 13
  • Manufactured and natural structure collage is due on Friday Nov 14. You will be given more time tomorrow to complete it.

Marks Deadline for First Report Card

The last day that I will accept any late assignments, or any other work, will be Wednesday November 12. I cannot accept any marks after this date in order for me to be able to mark the work and enter it to show up on the first report card. Please remember that you are able ot redo any assignments or work. However, I ask that you try to do this within a week of the day I hand back your original work. This way it ensures that you are getting it done and it also allows me to be more accurate in the assessment.

Please note that this deadline is only for the classes that I teach, 7-1 Smath, 7-2 Humanities, Video Production 7/8, and Web Design 7/8, since other teachers may have a different date. If you are unsure of any of the assignments that you are missing or if I have made any mistakes on your marks please come talk to me.

7-2 – Reading Response Journals

Our next reading response journal will be due today, followed two weeks later, Wednesday, by the next one. We will be doing reading response journal entries every two weeks and they will be based on what you read at school and at home during the past two weeks. Some times we may provide you with class time to work on the journals and other times you will have to complete the journal entries at home. Remember to look at the handout you have glued in your journal to help you with ideas to write about. Note, that we do not want you to retell the story to us.

Web Design – Website

Your first website will be due on Friday November 7. It must be inside of your folder on the Storage drive under Options, Web Design, and then your name, in order for me to be able to mark it. If you do not complete it by this date then I will be unable to mark it for it to be able to appear on the first report card and thus your mark will be very low. You have Wednesday’s class and Friday’s class to complete it.

7-1 – Mazes

Mazes are due on Friday November 7. You will not be given any more class to finish your mazes so if you have not yet finished them then you need to do so on your own time. We have been working on these mazes on some of our Friday classes.

  • Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be held tomorrow at 8:45. Please feel free to attend as these have always been very well done.
  • There is no school on Monday November 10 or on Tuesday November 11. Classes will resume on Wednesday November 12.

  • Please finish your broken line graph for tomorrow.
  • Remember to bring the proper materials for our collage activity tomorrow. This may include magazines, items to glue on to your collage, scissors, glue, and colouring tools.
  • If you do not already have one please get the following items: calculator, ruler, compass, protractor, and a triangle. All of the items except for the calculator can be found inside a geometry set. You can find these at dollar stores if you do not already have one.

  • Please continue working on your memoirs. If you are falling behind then please take it home to work on.
