Besides everyone being exhausted, including me, I think it was a pretty good start to 2013. I went over expectations and how we will be moving at a more rapid pace similar to what we were at before Winter break.

  • Think about the invention / discovery that you may want to cover for your chilren’s story.

It is 2013 which means that the world did not end and that you have to go to school tomorrow.

Like many of you, I tried to relax over the holidays and also worked on planning my wedding. As a result, I did not finish all of the assessment that I hoped to. I have completed everything except for persuasive essays from Hum 8-23. These take me on average 30 minutes each wich means about 17 hours of marking. I hope to have these finished later in the week.

I look forward to an amazing 2013 and I hope that you come back rested and ready to learn.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful winter break filled with family, fun, friends, and rest. Please get some sleep and think about some of the things we talked about as you prepare for 2013. Since, I am writing this, it means that the world did not end so yes, you still do need to come to school. See you on Tuesday January 8.

  • After the Debate Justification of your Decision is due before you leave for winter break, this means tomorrow before you go home, which means by 12:15.
  • I hope that everyone was able to hand everything in today for the Persuasive Essay.
  • Remember that tomorrow is our class gift exchange so if you would like to participate please bring a gift. Please wrap it or put it in a bag so that we do not know what it is. The class decided that the value should be between $10 and $20.
  • SMART Goal setting sheet is due the first Wednesday back after the winter break.

  • Think about the movie that we have been watching and its connections with Short Stories.

  • Persuasive Essay is due tomorrow, Wednesday, December 19. For tomorrow you should come to class with your second draft self proofread and edited and possibly peer edited and proofread as well. You will be given the double period to make any needed changes and then you can print off your published copy. You will be handing in your: planning / organizing, research, two leads, first draft, second draft, and published copies. Please make sure you follow the formatting text information that I provided to you today.
  • Breakfast Club tomorrow so if it is your group please remember to bring the needed items.

  • We need to figure something out as I am asking for your input in how to help make the class successful. I am using the feedback you give and changing what I am doing. However, to be honest I think this resulted in work of a lower quality.

Robotics

  • I appreciate most of you being honest today saying that you only sometimes put forth your best work. Many of you enjoy the create stage of the process but you have been putting little effort into the design, appraise  and articulate stages. These are just as important and remember that they are also being assessed. It is important to put forth effort in all of the stages.
  • Some of you have taken on the obstacle course challenge. We will talk about this in the New Year and set a date that we will have the contest.

  • I encourage you to have your second draft typed and printed for tomorrow’s class. This way you can spend the time proofreading and editing and also have others look over this draft. This puts you in a very good spot to have everything finished by the end of the day Wednesday. Make sure to look over the rubric for what we are looking for.

  • We will finish off the presentations tomorrow. I am missing some of your research even though I was very clear that I needed them today.

  • Awesome job today with the debate. I was impressed by the quality of the information, questions, and rebuttals that the groups used. I forgot to get you to hand in your research and the rest of your information so please hand this in on Monday, December 17.
  • The “After the Debate Justification of Your Decision” sheet is due before you leave for Winter Break, whenever that may be.
  • For Monday, have the first draft of your persuassive essay completed, edited, and proofread. Remember that editing is when you look at the content and organization and proofreading is when you check for mechanics and grammar. I would like you to use a different coloured pen or pencil when doing this so we can tell what has been done.

  • Come prepared on Monday, December 14 to present the information that you find out about the S. Fortsythe case and how her collective rights may have been violated. You should have already handed in your “fact sheet” and on Monday you will be handing in all of your research. Make sure to look at the handout that I gave you including the rubric so that you know what is expected and also how to do well. It was great to see you working so well today to get this finished.

  • The debate is tomorrow so make sure that you are prepared. The debate will take most of both periods so there will be no time to get ready so please come ready to go as we have the class during the first two periods in the morning.
  • I will go over the difference between proofreading and editing tomorrow so that you are able to go over this with your essay on the weekend in order to get ready for Monday’s class.

9-27

  • You will be given one more period tomorrow to work on the Case Study. At that point you will have had about 7 periods worth of class time to work on it. The presentations are on Monday, December 17 so come ready to present. Make sure you look over the assignment and the rubric.

Robotics 9

  • Really cool to see some of the stuff that you have started to do with the new NXT kits. Remember that you must fill out the design/plan sheet before you start to build/create. You also need to be documenting both your build and the appraise stage of the process as a way of sharing your knowledge and growth with your classmates.
