  • Be prepared to present your Children’s Book project on Monday, January 21.
  • Please also remember to bring your novel as we are going to begin independent reading again.

9-27

  • It is great to see many of you beginning to take your learning, at least in Humanities, much more seriously. I think that the last few days have been some of the most productive in a long time. Keep it up.
  • Remember that you should be finished your novel by Tuesday, or Wednesday.

Thursday, January 17

8-23

  • Continue working on your project. Remember that tomorrow is the last day to work on it as it is due Monday, January 21.

9-27

  • Here are the basic outline for the project that I shared with you today. I asked for some feedback and nothing was given so this is what we will be going with. Keep track of the due dates.
    • Project
      • Read a novel and adapt, convert, and condense it to turn it into a story designed for a younger audience (Grade 4,5 – Short novels)
      • Story will be between 750 and 2000 words (Roughly 3 – 8 pages)
      • You will use images that you create (cannot just copy and paste / trace) to help explain the important elements of the story
      • You will be submitting a digital copy of the text (images not needed)
    • Assessment – Going to be looking at
      • Reading Comprehension – did you understand the story and were you able to adapt, convert, and condense it
      • Elements of plot are demonstrated
      • Characters are well developed
      • Setting is evident
      • Designed for audience
      • Quality of the writing
      • All notes, planning/outline, and drafts are completed.

Robotics 9

  • There are only three classes left before the end of the term, Tuesday, January 22, Friday, January 25, and Wednesday, January 30. It is important that you keep up with your work as by the end of the term you should have finished two projects. This means two sets of planning/design, documentations of two creations, and appraisals and articulations for both as well.
  • For those of you doing the obstacle course challenge, we will do a trial run on Friday, January 25.

Wednesday, January 16

8-23

  • Another awesome day, keep up the great work. Remember that the due date was changed to Monday, January 21.
  • I was super impressed when every single one of you showed up for intramurals today. You rock!

9-27

  • Thank you for getting the Vertigo field trip forms in. There is only one or two missing now so lets try and get those ones in.
  • This was probably one of the most productive classes in a long time. I appreciate the effort that you put in today and I hope that it continues. This way I can start bragging about you again to all of the other teachers.

Tuesday, January 15

8-23

  • Continue to work on your assignment. After some discussion the due date has been changed to Monday, January 21. Thank you for working hard and using your class time well. I am super impressed with the quality of your work.

9-27

  • This is everything that we discussed today about the project. Since no one wanted to give me feedback about how to approach the project I will making up the expectations for the book adaptation and getting it to you by Friday.
    • Finish reading your novel by Tuesday, January 22, or Wednesday, January 23
      • Take the number of days 7, or 5 if you are not reading on the weekend, and divide this by the number of pages or chapters that you have left to read. This will tell you how many pages you need to read each day. Make sure to consider everything else that is going on in your busy schedule.
    • While you read take notes on the plot, characters, and setting so that you will have information to use when you create your children’s story.
    • One you have finished reading you can begin modifying your novel to be better fit with the younger audience.
    • You will then begin to write the adapted version of your novel. As part of this you will be handing in your notes, all planing/outlines, and at least one draft, along with your published copy.
    • This is due on Tuesday, January 29. Again, plan around everything else that you have to do.

Monday, January 14

I have put qrcodes up around the classroom to help you navigate to important websites using your laptops, tablets, and smartphones. I encourage you to start bringing these devices more to help you with your learning because I do not see many of them showing up.

  • Remember that you should be bringing your novel with you everyday right now as we are working on the book adaptation.
