Thursday November 4

7-01 & 7-07

  • Today was the last day to work on the FN Jigsaw activity. On Monday you will be given some time with your expert group to organize and prepare for the presentations. We will start the presentations during the second half of the class.
  • Make sure that you have had at least two people proofread the second draft of your memoir. You must also edit and proofread your memoir prior to class on Tuesday November 9. On this day we will be making corrections so that we can print our final published copy.
  • 7-01 – Next Reading Response Journal is due on November 17.
  • 7-07 – Next Reading Response Journal is due on November 24.

9-29

  • Please try and work on the notes to help you answer the question: What else can be done? The information is on page 66 & 67 and 78-85. You will have a bit of class time tomorrow to complete your notes but then we will be working on the last part which is: What do you think the punishment should be for the youth? All of this will be handed in on Monday November 8.

Tuesday November 2

7-01 & 7-07

  • I was glad to see that many of you came prepared to class with the second draft of your memoirs printed so that we could continue the peer editing of them. You will have more time on Thursday so that you can have more students peer edit your work.
  • Continue working on the FN Jigsaw expert group presentations. I was disappointed that many of the individuals, and groups, did not read the instructions because most of you were unaware of the crossword and the three requirements of the presentation. Thursday November 4 will be the last class time given to work on the project and we will begin our Home Group presentations on Monday November 8.

9-29

  • Come prepared tomorrow with the summary of the youth crime article that you found. The summary should include what happened and also what the punishment / consequence of the crime was.

Monday November 1

Check your marks. All of your teachers should have marks posted online now and it is your responsibility to make sure that everything is correct and that you are caught up.

7-01

  • Make sure that you have a typed copy of the second draft of your memoir ready to go for class tomorrow because we will be working on it further.
  • Think about how to approach the presentation for the FN Jigsaw activity. You will have more class time this week to work with your expert groups on this.

7-07

  • Next Reading Response Journal entry is due this Wednesday, November 3.
  • Make sure that you have a typed copy of the second draft of your memoir ready to go for class tomorrow because we will be working on it further.
  • Think about how to approach the presentation for the FN Jigsaw activity. You will have more class time this week to work with your expert groups on this.

9-29

  • Please think about the work we did with the impact of citizens, politicians, media, and lobbyists on laws. We will be doing some more work on the Youth Criminal Justice act to follow up with some of the information that Narda from the John Howard Society shared with us.

Thursday October 28

Thank you to everyone that dressed up today and especially those of you that acted responsibly even though you might not have been yourself. There were a few hiccups with students having difficulty walking to different areas in the school but those were soon resolved with some practice.

Remember that Term 1 end on Friday November 5 and the first Progress Report comes out on November 18.

7-01 & 7-07

  • Please take a look at your FN Jigsaw research to see if you need to complete any part or do more research. If so please have that ready to go for Monday, November 1.
  • You might want to judge how far along you are on typing up your second draft. You will have class time tomorrow but after that you are on your own and the Second Draft is due on Tuesday November 2.

9-29

  • Thank you for working well together and working towards passing a bill and making a law.

Wednesday October 27

  • Remember to dress up in your costume tomorrow for school and for the dance tomorrow night.
  • Check your marks as the end of the term is next Friday, November 5, and many teachers will stop accepting marks soon. It is your job to make sure everything is in and done to the best of your ability.

7-01 & 7-07

  • Continue working on your expert group research for the First Nations Jigsaw activity. Tomorrow might be your last class to find information.
  • We are going to begin typing up the memoir tomorrow, Thursday October 28, so please make sure that your first draft is finished. I asked you to go over it and proofread and edit it yourself as well.
  • Remember about the due dates for your Reading Response Journals.

9-29

  • You might need to do a bit more research for the bill that your home group is working on. We are going to finish looking at these tomorrow and try to come up with what will or would happen with our class.

Marks Updated – Sunday Oct 24 4:30pm

The marks have now  been updated and include the following items:

7-01 & 7-07

Yellow Pages, Visual Poetry, Designer Garb, Reading Response Journal entries, and three of the four parts of the Canada Fair. I will try to have the fourth part of the Canada Fair updated prior to the start of school tomorrow morning.

9-29

Life’s Road Map, One Week questions, Face Mosaic, and Captain Canuck project.

I encourage everyone to take a look at your marks to ensure that everything is completed and handed in. I am disappointed because there are 14 students currently receiving a mark below 50% and another 7 between 50% and 60%. To me this is completely unacceptable and is a result of students not handing in their work. It is your responsibility to use your agenda, the homework blog, and the reminders in class to get your work completed with your out most effort and handed in. If you feel that my expectations are too high, that you do not have enough time to complete the work, or that the work is too challenging please let me know so that we can figure this out together.

Mr. Lang

Thursday October 22

7-01 & 7-07

  • Make sure to have the first drafts of your Memoirs finished for Tuesday October 26 as we will be doing something else with them on this day. I think most of you are well on your way where some of you might have some catching up to do this weekend.
  • Continue working on the your “Expert” research for the First Nations Jigsaw project.

9-29

  • Come prepared on Wednesday October 27th with your information ready regarding your role (Politician, Media, Lobbyist, or Citizen) and the questions you needed to answer. We will be working on a new part and you need this information to proceed. No excuses since you have almost a week until we continue this since we have guest speakers on Monday and Tuesday.

Some Marks Updated

I have updated 9-29 marks to show the Captain Canuck Project. I have also posted the marks for the Reading Response Journals for 7-01. I will do my best to have everything else marked as soon as possible.
