March 3, 4, & 5

Robotics 8A

  • It seems as though this class is always interrupted. As a result, I am allowing you to decide how the rest of the programming module will go for you.
  • Your choices for the remaining three classes is as follows:
    • Choice 1 (Part A)– Complete the “All About Me” introductory Scratch assignment. You will only have one more class to work on this. The purpose of this is to have you start figuring out some of the tools. Below are the criteria for this.
      • At least 3 things about yourself
      • At least one clickable thing
      • An image of yourself
      • At least one movement
      • At least one custom sprite or background
      • At least one sound
      • Another way of interacting with your presentation
    • Choice 1 (Part B) – You will be given another small assignment, though a bit more challenging to complete in the remaining two classes.
    • Choice 2 – Spend the next three classes working on creating a game or a useful tool. This will be a final project and therefore needs to reflect this effort. Please

Robotics 8B

  • Today we continued working on the NXT Checklist. I hope that you are starting to figure out how to use the sensors as we will be trying to finish Stage 2 on Friday so that we can begin working on the more advanced projects.

Robotics 8C

  • I think many of you are starting to get the hang of this. We spent the class working on designing and creating something that could be considered useful. The three options I gave you, if you do not want to come up with your own, are creating a cable organization tool for the laptop carts; a device that will hold up a phone or a tablet; or something that will stop you from losing your pen or pencil. You will have more time to work on this next class. This is due on Wednesday, March 12

Robotics 9A

  • We spent some time trying to finish our racing robots. The quality of the builds ranged from impressive to something that really did not go anywhere. However, I hope that everyone had a chance to explore some of the parts and also how to build using the Mindstorms. The focus was on design, and the designs did vary a fair amount which was neat to see.
  • For Friday, March 7 please finish the appraisal / reflection for this. I have shared the file with all of you in Google Drive. Please remember that the questions at the bottom of the second page are just there to guide your thoughts.
    • Most of you will likely do this as  a paragraph response but remember feel free to respond to this and share your learning in any way that you like.
  • If you are handing something in digitally then please put it in your Google Drive folder, otherwise bring it to class and hand it in the bin.
    • Your folder should be named as follows (your name – 9A). Remember to create this go into Google Drive, click on “Create” and then “Folder”. Once you have made this please share it with me by right clicking on the folder, and then “Share” You will add my email address, [email protected], under invite, and please give me editing privileges.

Robotics 9B

  • I am super impressed with some of the work that you are doing using Scratch. It seems as though most of you are enjoying this. It is an introduction to coding and I hope that you can transfer the skills to your other classes.
    • This is due on Saturday, March 8 by Midnight. Please make sure that you put it in your Google Drive folder.

Robotics 9C

  • We began using Scratch as an introduction to coding and I hope that you can transfer the skills to your other classes.
  • You were asked to go through the tutorial to learn some of the basic skills. You were then given a choice of two assignments.
    • 1.) For those of you finding this concept difficult you are to complete the “All About Me” introductory Scratch assignment. The purpose of this is to have you start figuring out some of the tools. Below are the criteria for this.
      • At least 3 things about yourself
      • At least one clickable thing
      • An image of yourself
      • At least one movement
      • At least one custom sprite or background
      • At least one sound
      • Another way of interacting with your presentation
    • 2.) If you need more of a challenge then please create a story in Scratch that includes a variable, and input, and also a function.
