It is difficult for us to start the year in a space that is not ready and I appreciate the patience of the students as we work to finish the space. Construction & Design is also taking a unique approach which is allowing the students to select projects in areas that interest them. These range from robotics to welding and everything in between. However, to be able to approach the class in this manner means that the students are having to discover a great deal out on their own as there is no way that I am able to provide support to all of the students for every situation when everyone is doing something different.
My concerns from this are:
- Students getting materials without asking
- Students not putting materials back appropriately
- Students guessing on how to do things instead of asking questions or researching.
Safety is of the outmost importance and I am glad to see that students are respecting the equipment and using it appropriately. However, they are not always using the correct equipment such as a coping saw to make long straight cuts, hot glue to secure wood together, and 220 grit sandpaper for removing large amount of material.
I encourage all of my students to slow down so that we can work together to do amazing things and create things that you will be proud of.
