Wednesday Feb 3

We are very fortunate to be hosting a Citizenship Ceremony at our school on February 10 to welcome roughly 85 new Canadians. A great deal of planning has gone into the ceremony to ensure that it is a wonderful and real learning experience for our Grade 9 students. We have also been given permission by Judge Way, the Citizenship Judge, and Ms. Lemieux, Citizenship Officer for Citizenship and Immigration Canada, to do a live broadcast of the ceremony onto our Pod televisions so that the whole school can witness this amazing event. We are also lucky to have representatives from all three levels of government as well as dignitaries from the Calgary Board of Education attending this event.

  • Get your field trip forms in. I need them by Friday Feb 5 to confirm how many students will be going. The field trip is on Thursday February 18.
  • Please make sure that you bring all required materials to start working on the making and constructing of your costumes, props, and backgrounds. Remember that everything should be well organized as you spent two classes putting your lists together. We will now spend the next week or two making what we need.
  • You do not need to bring any of your costumes or props that you have at home as we will not be filling for a while yet.
  • Your next reading response journal is not due until Wednesday February 24 because of the start of the term. However, you now have almost four weeks to complete it so I am expecting that it is of a high level.
  • Please come prepared tomorrow with your short stories as we will continue working on them.

  • Continue working on your questions for the Hernan Cortes trial as they are meant to give you a basic understanding of the Spanish Conquest so that you will be able to approach the trial with knowledge.
  • Come prepared to work on your essays tomorrow.
