Tom Baines School will be closed on Monday June 24th, 2013. Staff and students will not be present at the school.

Exams scheduled for Monday have been cancelled. All Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Exams have been cancelled for this year. Grade 9 students’ final mark will be based on all three term marks.

At this point we are unsure of the rest of the week as it pertains to the Grade 7 & 8 exams, Grade 9 and the year-end assemblies. More information will be sent out as soon as possible. Please check the Calgary Board of Education for updates at www.cbe.ab.ca

Marks Updated

As of 11:00 p.m., all marks have been updated to reflect all work that has been handed in. Please check and let me know ASAP if I have made any errors.

Mid May I handed out missing work forms, talked to those of you that were behind, and provided time for you to get caught up. Unfortunately, very few took me up on this opportunity to do so. As a result some of you may have to live with the consequences. However, it was great to see some of you get extra help and work hard to hand in your work and some of you even decided to redo some of the work that you were not happy with.

Remember at the end of the day this is about your learning, not your marks. Having said this though, some of you do not seem to understand the effort that is required to truly become an exceptional leaner. I encourage you to think about this over the summer and see what you need to do in order to improve your learning for next year.

I hope that those of you that said you would bring food will remember to do so as we do not want to leave our people or our guests hungry.

  • Awesome job today as we were finally able to get a look at our rebuilt village. You also started creating a culture to meet the needs of our people. You will be given time to work on this tomorrow. On Wednesday we will celebrate our amazing village. Please make sure that you know what you have to have done for this day or what you will have to bring.

  • Awesome start today to Dragon’s Den. Tomorrow we will continue and hopefully hear the pitches from the rest of the Dragons. Make sure to come prepared.

  • That darn Shogun has started to tax your families more by now requesting some of the supplies that you found to help you survive. Luckily the farmers have stood up for your rights and have started to protest. By the end of the day everyone was trying to over through the Shogun and take over the government. How will we continue on monday? Please have your buildings for the village completed by then.

  • The last literature circle discussion is on Monday, June 17. You should have your book finished and your role ready for this day.
  • The Dragons are ready to hear your pitches for your products or services on Monday. Make sure that you are ready to go as there is a great deal of money ready to be won.

  • Please remember your building supplies (whatever you think you might need, recycling like paper roles and  as we try to reconstruct our village. You will be given a small rectangular parcel of land ( a piece of paper folded in half) in which to build on. So think of this is a model or our village. Your structure should represent your role so think of how you can incorporate this together.

9-27

  • Your literature circle journal #3 is due on Friday, June 14. Your next discussion is on Monday, and at this point you should be finished your novel.
  • We will begin Dragon’s Den on Monday, June 17 so make sure that you are ready to go.
