  • Second Reading Response is due Wednesday April, 24. Please share your response with me using Google Drive or else through Kidblog.
  • We started exploring poetry today by looking at magnetic poetry. A file was shared with each of you in Google Drive, called “Magnetic Poetry” that had the instructions as well as a collaborative part.

9-27

  • Analysed and discussed some examples of letters from the PAT. The purpose of this was to explore how the work would be graded and to give you an insight in to what makes a satisfactory, proficient, and exemplary letter.
  • For tomorrow you should have your research, and outline completed as well as the introduction and first body paragraph of your letter. We will finish writing the first drafts on Tuesday, proofread and edit on Wednesday, type up and second round of proofreading and editing on Thursday, and make changes and print the published copy on Friday.

Robotics

  • I am hoping that some of you start to select your own projects. As a result we went over the design process and it is recommended that you do this work at home so that you have more time in class to build your designs. Remember that each class you need to make sure to do the appraisal stage by utilizing Kidblog.

  • Student Led Conferences – Make sure that you have everything you need for the conference at school because it would not be a very good start to showing your parents how amazing you are. Things you may be covering are your: reading response (kidblog), codex & compass, Slumdog Millionaire (plot & worldview), & Gmail / Google Drive
  • Lifeskills – Last breakfast club is this Wednesday, April 17. Please make sure that your group talks so that everything is ready.

Friday, April 12

8-23

  • I will be finishing up all of my marking over the weekend, thank you for being patient.
  • Make sure that you are ready for the Trial on Monday, April 15 because we have Humanities first thing in the morning. You will be given some time to finalize things and get ready for the trial. Please use the assignment sheets, and rubric to help you prepare.

9-27

  • I will be finishing up all of my marking over the weekend, thank you for being patient.
  • Remember that your next Reading Response is due on Wednesday, April 17.
  • Over the weekend try to determine for your letter about the following question: “What is one thing that you want to see changed to make this place better?” This place can be pretty much anywhere but I suggested looking at one of your classes, Tom Baines School, Calgary, Alberta, or Canada. However, a number of you have already approached me about doing something slightly different and even some slightly different questions. Regardless, try to have your topic picked and narrowed for Monday, April 15.

Thursday, April 11

8-23

  • Tomorrow is the last day to work on your research for the Trial of Hernan Cortes. I would recommend coming to class tomorrow with the majority of your research finished. You could then use at least one period of class time figuring out your character, your costume, and also any props/evidence that you may want to include.

9-27

  • I am incredibly disappointed by the effort that many of you are putting in to your work. Some of you are not taking the class, your learning, or me seriously. At this point I am beginning to take this personally and will be starting to be implement some strategies to fix the problems that I see.
  • For tomorrow please finish going over your own letter, possibly finishing it, and providing yourself with an assessment on the content, and content management (organization) of your letter. For homework, I am asking you to write down at least two things that made your letter better than the other two you assessed as well as two things that made the other letters you assessed better than yours. I will be collecting this tomorrow.

Wednesday, April 10

8-23

  • You will be given time tomorrow and on Friday to finish the research for the Trial. The trial will likely begin on Monday, April 15 so please make sure that you are doing everything that you need to in order to be prepared.
  • LifeSkills
    • Our last Breakfast Club of the year is next Wednesday, April 17. If this is your group please talk to each other to make sure that you have everything prepared.
    • Please finish answering the questions on the drug that you selected for next Wednesday so that we can discuss what we found.
    • Still missing a number of Human Sexuality forms. Please check Term 3 Life Skills marks online to see if you have handed it in.

9-27

  • Finished going over and briefly discussing the Basics of Economics information. If you do not have this filled out, even though we went over the entire thing, please get it done for tomorrow.
  • As a class we decided to drop the Picture Dictionary idea for vocabulary but you are still expected to know the terms
  • Handed out information about letter writing. We did go over this briefly in the beginning of the year, and Mr. Kuwahara went over it with you again while I was gone. Please keep this sheets for your reference. Look over them for tomorrow as we are going to start working on writing letters. The first one will for practice, and the second one we will actually mail out.

Robotics

  • I encourage you to begin working on your appraisal and articulation as you go through the activities we are currently working on.
  • Make sure that you are checking your online marks to see if you are missing anything, and if you are to inform me.

Tuesday, April 9

So, I am now finally back from Spring Break, and my Honeymoon. I am also further behind than I was before with my assessment. Please bare with me as I try to get caught up as it may take a little time. I appreciate how well behaved everyone was with Mr. Kuwahara while I was gone.

Report cards went home today. I encourage everyone to sign up for Student Led Conferences. If you would like to sit down one on one to discuss your child’s learning please make an appointment outside of this time as the Student Led Conferences are an opportunity for your child to demonstrate their understanding to you.

8-23

  • We continued working on the Trial of Hernan Cortes today. I had a chance to meet with all of the groups involved and I think you all have a pretty good understanding of what you need to do. We will spend the rest of this week working on preparing for the trial that will take place early next week.
  • Since I am behind in my assessment, your next Reading Response is due on Wednesday, April 24.
  • Please check online to see if you have handed in your Human Sexuality form as I am still missing a number of them.

9-27

  • I tried to get a sense of where everyone was with the work that was to be done while I was away. It seems like a number of you enjoyed the Lemonade Stand scenario that continued our look in to the basics of economy and economic systems.
  • We will finish going over the “Basics of Economics” information tomorrow. Please try to finish any work that you are behind on for this.
  • Mr. Kuwahara started to go over how to properly format a letter. We will likely continue this work tomorrow.
  • Since I am behind in my assessment, your next Reading Response is due on Wednesday, April 17.
