8-23

  • Today we explored the world of Street Art by sharing some of the poetry we have written on the sidewalks outside of Tom Baines School. By sharing with others we hope to inspire creative thought and respect.

9-27

  • We spent most of today go over each other essays / narratives, and business letters in preparation for the PAT on Monday. Please think about the feedback that you have been given to see how you can improve.
  • Please remember your novel for tomorrow.
  • Also, Mr. Petrowitsch is coming to the class in period two to talk about the letters that were sent to him. Don’t worry I think it is a positive thing, and I am definitely proud of many of you for voicing your opinions and concerns about school, city, and national issues. Hopefully we hear back from others as well.

Wednesday, May 8

8-23

  • Our plans changed a bit today so we did a slight detour and watched “The Truman Show” in the hopes of exploring the change in world view affected by the beliefs, values, knowledge, time, geography, and economy that was reflected in the movie.
  • Please have your novels tomorrow.
  • Bring all of the poetry you have written so far because if the weather is nice tomorrow we will be covering the sidewalks with it.

9-27

  • Spent some more time figuring out how to tackle to written portion of the Language Arts PAT that is to occur on Monday. Please make sure that you have a printed word-processed or written copy of your essay / narrative and your business letter for tomorrow as we will be looking over them to figure out how to improve.

Tuesday, May 7

Remember that your Complimentary Class Selection forms for next year are due tomorrow.

8-23

  • Continue working on the writing of your poetry. If we have nice weather on Thursday, then we might be able to get out and do some of the sidewalk poetry. Lets hope for good weather.

9-27

  • The purpose of today was to give you an opportunity to see what you would be able to get done in the allotted time for the PAT. Some of you should spend more time, and others should spend less time with your writing. Try to figure out where you site with this. Tomorrow we will be doing the functional writing piece, the business letter, so you get a sense of this as well.

Monday, May 6

8-23

  • Last week you were working on “Found” poetry with Ms. Buchoski. You should have handed in your work today as she provided you enough time to complete this last week.
  • Please continue to write poems. They can by in any style or form and about any topic. I just want you to explore different ways of expressing yourself. Make sure to keep all of your poems as you will need all of them soon enough.

9-27

  • Today, we looked at and discussed examples of essays and narratives based on a past LA PAT. We spent time exploring what results in quality writing in both styles and I asked you to consider what you feel more comfortable with.
  • Tomorrow you will be given time to practice a essay/narrative piece of writing in the specific time allotted for the exam. On Wednesday you will have a chance to do practice the business letter.
  • In order to prepare for this I encourage you to look over the examples that are provided to you from previous years. Make sure to look at the rubrics that are provided for reasons about the assessment.

  • You will need your novels for every day next when because you will be working with Ms. Buchoski on found poetry.
  • I have been incredibly impressed with the quality of your poems and also your willingness to share. Thank you!

9-27

  • Have a great week, thanks for the hard work over the last few days with your letters.

Thursday, April 25

8-23

  • Take a look at the poetry you have already started to work on. I encourage more of you to share so that everyone can see what amazing poets we have in the class.
  • Lifeskill
    • Still waiting for some of the Human Sexuality forms. Please get those back to me ASAP.

9-27

  • Since everyone put in a great day of work I will provide you both periods of class time tomorrow to work on your letters. However, by the end of the day you will be expected to hand in your research, planning, first draft, second drafts, two copies of your published copy, and your completed envelope. I recommend coming to class tomorrow with your second draft printed, and at least self proofread and edited. The further you can get ahead before tomorrow the easier your day will likely be.

  • Please remember to complete the design stage for each new project that you take on. Once your group has discussed your concept with me then you can hand these in and move on to the create/build stage.

Wednesday, April 24

  • Continue to think about poetry and about possible ways of expressing your thoughts, ideas, and feelings on paper.
  • For tomorrow please select your best poem, from the Art, Music, and Poetry exercise.

  • Tomorrow we will have computers for you to begin wordprocessing your second draft. Therefore, you should be coming to class with your first draft, self proofread and edited, as well proofread and edited from at least three of your peers. This way you will be able to get your letter typed, printed, and also go through the second stage of proofreading and editing. You need to decide where you are and how much more you need to get done.
