  • Today we started playing around with a drag and drop programming language called Scratch. The nice thing about this is that it is open source which means you can download it for free at home. There is also another program that we may look at called Alice. It is also open source so check them out.
  • Scratch Video Tutorials – I would start on Video Lesson 2 as we basically covered all of the stuff in Video Lesson 1 in class.

Monday, February 25

8-23

  • Please continue to work on the Ship Log / Journal entry (Task 3). You will be given two periods of class time tomorrow, and possibly a little bit of time on Wednesday. Task 2 and Task 3 are to be handed in by the end of the day on Friday, March 1.

9-27

  • I am starting to become very frustrated by a number of people in this class. Not because of how you are acting or your behaviour but because of your lack of self worth and value with respect to your learning. Many of you did not take the activity we were doing seriously, even though I have provided as many opportunities as possible to allow all of you to have an input into your learning including, providing textbook work, a test, individual work, group work, selecting groups for you, allowing you to select your own groups, and now a scenario. It was not until I asked all of you to do something individually and that I would be collecting it by the end of the class that you took yourselves seriously. However, the next attempt at the scenario seemed to go much better so thank you. If this style of learning does not work for you then you need to let me know so I can adapt what I am doing to meet your needs. Please be aware that this is not about your marks, but about your learning and that much of what I do is based on current research on how people your age develop and learn. If you are ever unsure about what we are doing or why we are doing it please ask and I will be happy to explain it to you.
  • For tomorrow remember to have your novels.
  • Also, think about the Task 4 activity that I had you start as individuals today. We are going to finish this as a class tomorrow.

Thursday, February 21

8-23

  • Tomorrow you should be finishing Task 2 and starting to work on Task 3. We will discuss a final due date then.
  • Please try and get caught up with the Life Skills work as many of you are behind.

9-27

  • Remember your novels for tomorrow.
  • I appreciate that more of you are getting involved with the discussion even if it is forced.

Robotics 9

  • Awesome work today. If you have not already done so please work on the appraisal process that you are recording on Kid Blog.

Wednesday, February 20

  • Sorry for the late update, but I started working on something and forgot to do this after school 😉
  • All marks will be updated by 8:00 pm based on all material I have received from you.

8-23

  • Please remember your novel for tomorrow.
  • You should be able to finish, or be close to finishing, Task 2 tomorrow with the time given in class. If you are not at this point then I encourage you to do some extra work at home to get caught up and so that you are reading to start Task 3 on Friday.

9-27

  • Today we began exploring Immigration and its impact on Canada and its people. I encourage all of you to advocate for your learning be informing me of your learning needs throughout the class. A part of this is to also try and become more involved in the discussion and topics that are being brought up in class. You will likely find that you will become more engaged, learn the content and skills better, and in turn, improve your learning.

Robotics

  • Please make sure that you come tomorrow with the first part of the design process completed as tomorrow we will finish this, and then begin building our structures.
