Thank to all of the students and parents that came out yesterday. It was nice to see some familiar faces and to meet some new people.

  • Your “Roots & Shoots” project was due today so if you did not hand it in please get it in ASAP.
  • Continue to think about your worldview and factors that have influenced it.
  • Work on getting to know your learning styles and needs better. Think about what way of note taking works best for you. You can compare the notes that you took with the ones that I have attached here. Is there something else you should add, something you should remove?
  • Please remember to bring a novel to read every Monday & Thursday

Thursday September 13

Robotics 9A

  • A reminder that classes will now be in Room 23, Green Pod.
  • Please finish, or fix up, your design for the robot / machine that you created today using the styrofoam spheres, pipe-cleaners, and bendy straws as I will be collecting these when I see you on Tuesday September 18.
  • Also continue to work on the instructions for your Human Robot as are going to giving this a try on Tuesday as well. You will have some more class time to work on this then.
  • I have asked to have Alice and Scratch put onto the computers so that we can begin our programming though there might be a delay. Hopefully this will be finished before our class on Tuesday or if not then definitely Friday.

Wednesday September 12

Please remember to come tomorrow night for “Meet the Teacher.” We ask that you bring your child’s timetable as you will be following their schedule to see what a day would be like for them. The evening begins at 7:00.

A big thank you goes out to all of my students as I really appreciate your work ethic, your desire to do well, and the respect that you show me. Please keep this up as we continue with our year.

Robotics 9

  • Come prepared to Thursday’s class with information for at least two robots.
  • Remember that you can download Scratch, and Alice as they are free and work on Mac and PC computers so that you can start playing around with this simplified form of programming.

Thursday Sept 6

I showed both classes an animated video of Sir Ken Robinson’s speech on “Changing Education Paradigms.” My hope of doing this was to get everyone thinking about themselves as learners and what their passions, strengths, and needs are.

  • All forms handed out on the first day of classes should be handed in by tomorrow so please make sure that you get these in.
  • Think about what we can do with our class name and logo / mascot / dance / skit / song / poster ideas as we will visit this again tomorrow.

Welcome Back

It was great to see everyone at school today, new faces and old. Please remember to return all of your forms by Friday, September 7.
