  • You were provided with one period of time to work on developing the outline for your essay and also to work on the two leads that you will be creating. Please come on Wednesday with your outline and at least one of your leads started/finished.
  • The second period you worked on finishing the prep for your debate tomorrow. Make sure you know your stuff and that you are ready to go. Props and visuals can help support your ideas.
  • Reading response three is due this Wednesday.

  • Our debate wills till be taking place on Tuesday January 17. If tomorrow goes as well as today did with regards to working then you will also be given time on Monday.

Tuesday January 10

I had an awesome day today and this is because you had an awesome day. Well, I can’t really speak for you but the majority of you were on task and working towards the many things that have been thrown at you lately. Keep up the great work. Those of you that didn’t have an awesome day please figure things out quickly.

  • Please have your first draft (rough copy) of your “Who has made my life better letter” for Thursday as we are going to start typing this up (second draft)

8-04

  • Work on anything that you need to work on. Take a look at yesterdays post for due dates and where you should be.

Monday January 9

If you are not seeing updated marks for your classes then you may need to delete your browser’s cache. If you are not sure how to do this use a search engine, like Google, and search for “delete cache” and the name of your browser  such as: Safari, Firefox, or Internet Explorer.

7-01

  • Reading Response #3 is due on Wednesday January 25.
  • Thursday will be the last class time given for the First Nation Expert Group Presentation prep part of the project. You will be giving your presentations to your home groups on Tuesday January 17.
  • Please come prepared with the rough copy of your “Who has made your life better letter” proofread and edited by you for tomorrows class as we will be continuing the writing process.
  • It was great to see that so many of you remembered to bring your novels to class today. Please remember to have them on every Monday and Wednesday.

8-04

  • Reading Response #3 is due on Wednesday January 18.
  • Remember to have your novels every Tuesday and Thursday.
  • You will be given class time tomorrow and on Wednesday to continue your research for the Renaissance Thinker’s Debate. However, on  Wednesday you should be starting to compile your information with your group and begin planning your debate and filing out the charts provided to you. The debate will be on Tuesday January 17.
  • I would recommend working on the research for your persuasive essays at home. You will be given at least one other class period to work on finding information that will support your argument but we will begin working on the rough draft in the near future. Please review the workshops that we have already done related to finding and including information into essays as well as ideas for leads.

Friday January 6

I hope that everyone had a wonderful winter break. Remember that school starts back up on Monday January 9.

I am going to kick it into high gear and start expecting much more from my students with respect to their role within the learning environment. I have been letting many things slide and I have decided that I need to start doing something about it. I am looking at ways of making my students more accountable to their learning. I will also be exploring ways of improving my communication with parents so that we can all truly work together to ensure that your child is receiving the assistance, support, and guidance that is required for them to become exemplary learners.

I have also updated all of the online assessment scores based on all work that was handed in prior to Friday December 23. Please check your online assessment scores to see if they are correct and to find out if you are missing anything.

Please come prepared to learn with all of your required materials, including your books for independent reading, on Monday so that we start 2012 off right.

Mr. Lang

Wednesday December 21

  • Please remember to clean out your lockers before the start of the day tomorrow as we will be doing a locker check as we do not have time for a clean up tomorrow and we do not want to come back in January with everything all gross and smelly.
  • Tomorrow Thursday December 22 is a half day as you will be dismissed at 12:15
  • There is no school on Friday December 23 as it is a PD day and school starts up again on Monday January 9.
I wish everyone a safe, restful, and fun winter break. I will see all of you in 2012.

7-01

  • Remember your $10 to $20 gift for the gift exchange tomorrow if you are wanting to participate.

Tuesday December 20

7-01

  • Please make sure that you have proofread and edited your letter by the time you return from Winter break. We will work on the peer editing then.
  • Remember to keep reading over the break as your next Reading Response is due on Wednesday January 25, 2012.
  • You can work on you FN Expert Group Presentation if you would like but you will be given more time when we get back.

8-04

  • You should work on the research/information portion of your persuasive essay so that we can start working on the leads when you get back from your Winter Break.
  • Remember to keep reading over the break as your next Reading Response is due on Wednesday January 18, 2012.

Monday December 19

  • Last day for January Scholastic Book orders is Friday January 13.
  • Remember that Thursday is early dismissal and that there is no school this Friday.

7-01

  • Rough draft of your letter should be finished for tomorrow especially since I gave you more time today if you needed it.
  • Think about what your group can do for the presentation portion of the FN Jigsaw Project

8-04

  • We had another talk today about how you choose to use your class time. Remember that if you choose to do other work in Humanities, or choose not to do any work at all, that the time required to make up for not working on Humanities is not considered homework. This is considered schoolwork and you are just choosing to do it at home.
  • Continue working on the research/information for your persuasive essay. We will be continuing to work on this in the New Year. It is not for homework but when you come back you should have spent about an hour worth of time so far researching and finding information to support your idea.
  • The same is true with the Renaissance Thinkers’ Debate as we have just started this but make sure that you have spent the amount of class time I have given you toward your research.
