Friday December 16

I have updated marks for 7-01 (except for the Reading Response as this will be done this weekend), 7-07, and 8-04. Please check your marks to find out what it is you are missing and how you have been doing. Ms. McAuley will be updating marks and the homework for 7-07 from now on so please check out her stuff by going to the Contact section of D2L.

7-01

  • Remember to bring your novels on Monday.
  • For Monday you should be done the research for the Expert group portion of the FN Jigsaw project. Next week we are going to be starting to work on putting your ideas together and working on your presentations.
  • The rough draft of your “Who has made my life better letter” done or at least almost finished for class on Tuesday December 20 as we are going to start peer and self editing/proofreading this rough draft.

8-04

  • We had a very interesting presentation for Life Skills today that made me think differently about things so I am sure it did for you as well. Since this interrupted one of our periods the next period we had a great discussion. I encourage you though to take a look at the project we have started and you can start working on it with your group using D2L. It will not be due until well into the New Year.

Thursday December 15

7-01

  • I was impressed by how hard everyone was working on their “How You Have Made My Life Better Letter”. However, I think some of you are struggling to write your first draft because you did not put the effort and time into the brainstorming and planning/outline portion of the assignment. Please have your rough draft almost finished or finished for Tuesday December 20.
  • Today was the last class time that is going to be given for the First Nations Jigsaw Expert Group Research. If you feel like you are behind then you should use time outside of school to get caught up. We will look at this again on Monday December 19.

8-04

  • Mr. Hicks and I have been having some tough conversations with you about how your learning is your responsibility. We have been hearing a number of excuses, and although most are probably valid, you need to start making choices. We try to allow as much class time as possible to complete your work. However, some of you are choosing not to use this time effectively. Some of you are also becoming annoyed by some of your classmates and we are trying to encourage you to start making chooses that will have a positive impact on your learning. Please remember that doing nothing is not that answer.
  • Italian City States project is still due tomorrow. Some of you asked about handing it in late. If that is the choice you are making then you will have to accept the consequences if there are any.

Wednesday December 14

I know that there is under two weeks left before your Winter Break, but I would like to remind everyone that there is still lots to get done before then and that my expectations and rules, as well as those of the school, still apply.

7-01

  • Some of you are still struggling to find a good book to read during independent reading time during class on Monday and Wednesday, and some of you are struggling to stay focused during this time. I would like you to work on figuring out how to put yourself in a situation that will allow you to focus on your book.

8-04

  • I was very disappointed and surprised by your class today. You seemed overwhelmed with work, so I extended the due date of the Italian City States project to this Friday from Wednesday. I also provided you with two extra periods of class time to work on it. Today, some of you created a petition, which I was impressed by, asking for more more time yet again. I would have given this to you if you had been using your class time today effectively; however, that was not the case. I would like to remind everyone that we began this project on November 30. This means that you had two full weeks to complete the assignment having nine periods of class time to work on it. I helped gather resources and provided assistance to students that asked for it. This assignment is still due on Friday December 14. I am assessing you based on the rubric and assignment provided to you.
  • Please remember to have your novel for tomorrow’s independent reading time.

Tuesday December 13

7-01

  • Reading Response #2 is due tomorrow
  • Awesome job today working on the FN Jigsaw. I was really impressed by how hard you worked.
  • Come prepared on Thursday with the brainstorming and planning for your “Who has made my life better letter” so that we can begin or continue writing it.
  • Remember your novels for tomorrow.

8-04

  • Italian City States project is due on Friday December 17.
  • Reading Response #2 is due tomorrow

Monday December 12

7-01

  • I would recommend doing some research for your FN Jigsaw Expert Group
  • You should have your brainstorming and your outline/planning started for your letter.
  • Remember that your next Reading Response Journal is due on Wednesday December 14.

8-04

  • Bring your novel tomorrow
  • You should be done your research for your Italian City State project and should now be working on putting it together. Remember to look at the hand out and the rubric. The project is due on Friday December 16.
  • Come to class on Wednesday with your brainstorming for your Persuasive Essay.
  • Remember that your next Reading Response Journal is due on Wednesday December 14.

Friday December 9

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone as I think things are starting to settle down and all of the students are starting to understand that the focus is on their learning and as part of this that they are needing to grow in different areas. I am having an awesome time teaching both of the classes.

7-01

  • Remember that your next Reading Response entry is due on Wednesday December 14. Also have your novel on Monday.
  • Work on the brainstorming and planning for your letter. We will continue this next week and it would be great to be at a point where we can start writing our drafts of the letter.

8-04

  • Remember that your next Reading Response entry is due on Wednesday December 14. Also have your novel on Tuesday.
  • You will have one period of class time on Monday and Tuesday to work on your Italian City States project. It is due on Friday December 16 so you might want to work on this at home as well.

Thursday December 8

  • Tomorrow is the last day to bring in money for the Christmas Hampers.
  • Tomorrow is also twin day so remember to dress up.

7-01

  • Awesome job today working in your groups on the FN Jigsaw project. Please take a look at the peer review comments to see what you are doing well and how you can improve.
  • Come prepared tomorrow with an idea of who you could write your letter to about who has inspired you or made your life better.

8-04

  • Since I am a nice guy, and I figured that you needed some more time, the new due date for the Italian City States project is Friday December 16. You will also get class time on Monday and Tuesday to work on this but after that we are moving on. Make sure to look at the rubric and the assignment sheet itself to make sure that you are achieving at the highest level possible.

Tuesday December 6

Remember to bring in your donation for our Pods Christmas Hampers. We are supporting two families within our own communities that are currently going without over the holiday season. If you are able to contribute please bring your money and give it to your homeroom teacher so that our Pod can purchase the necessary things that they need.

7-01

  • Remember to bring your novel with you to class tomorrow, like every Monday and Wednesday.
  • You may want to start working on your next Reading Response Entry as it is due on Wednesday November 14.
  • Continue working on the FN Jigsaw Expert Group Research.

8-04

  • The current due date for the Italian City States project is Tuesday November 13 and this Friday will likely be the last class time given to work on it. If we are working hard and more time is needed we can talk about this.
  • Look over your “How to scratch an itch” workshop as we might be visiting this tomorrow to begin planning our essays.
