Monday December 5

Remember to bring in your donation for our Pods Christmas Hampers. We are supporting two families within our own communities that are currently going without over the holiday season. If you are able to contribute please bring your money and give it to your homeroom teacher so that our Pod can purchase the necessary things that they need.

  • By tomorrow’s class you should be done your preliminary research from the Text Book. Tomorrow you will begin research your specific City State and finding out more about it. If you are unsure what to do please look over the instructions that you were given.

Parent Teacher & Student Led Conferences

Thank you to everyone that came out over the three days. It was great to see parents and students come to discuss learning and show off some pretty amazing things. If you were unable to attend but would still like to talk to me please send me an email and we can set up a time to do so.

There were some questions about our new assessment policy and how this reflects the learning of the students. I encourage everyone to go to the Parent Section of our site and read some of the literature in there about it. I pushed for this over the last two years, pushed for it at our Administrative Retreat near the end of last year, was on the committee that put it together, and am now working with students and staff to move forward with it. I would also be happy to answer any questions that I can.

Because of the conferences I was unable to find time to update the Blog on Wednesday. I am also still trying to catch up on the marking from a few weeks ago. Regardless, I will do my best to have everything updated by Monday.

7-01

  • Have a novel for tomorrow
  • On Wednesday we began looking at the First Nations Jigsaw Project. We will continue working with our Home Groups on Monday to finish up some of the preliminary research. If you were away we will fill you in on Monday.

8-04

  • We continue working on the Italian City States Brochure. You should have about half of your preliminary note taking done for Monday. However, you will have some more class time then to work on this.

Tuesday November 29

Student Led Conferences

  • Students must attend the student led conferences as you will be exploring and explaining your learning with your parents.
  • Please have your SMART Goal sheet and your workshop/journal duo-tang/binder
  • You will be going through centres such as: explaining your workshop binder, moving your name for a discussion on the SMART Board, showing your parents D2L and the Resource section of my website, reading a short passage and writing a quick response to it, and discussing how immigration is important to Canada (Gr 7) or discussing things that influence your worldview (Gr 8).

Parent Teacher Conferences

  • Everything will be set up for the Student Led Conferences so if you are waiting to speak to me or want to go through the stations after please feel free to do so.
  • I ask that students also attend these conferences as you should hear anything that I have to say to your parents, good or bad.

Marks

  • Marks have been updated with more to come. I am doing my best to finish assessing the work that Mr. Fodchuk was doing with the class. I will do my best to have everything completed by the end of the week. Mr. Fodchuk still has the Story Books for 7-01 & 7-07 but he was just admitted to the hospital because of his illness. I have told him to worry about getting better before worrying about finishing the assessments. I hope you understand the current situation.

7-01

  • Today we finished presenting our Current Events News Broadcasts.
  • I am doing my best at getting all of the marks from Mr. Fodchuk online. Please make sure to check these because some of you are missing many things.
  • Tomorrow we will likely be starting something new. Remember to have your novel every Monday and Wednesday.

7-07

  • Everything will likely be the same as 7-01; however, Ms. McAuley is now teaching this class. We are working on getting her homework blog up and running so that she can update it and so that you can check there. Please be patient as we set this up.

8-04

  • Shared our worldview skits.
  • Remember to have your novels every Tuesday & Thursday so that you can read. We will be completing reading response journals every two to three weeks. I will let you know when the next one is due in the next few days.
  • Began working on the Italian City States brochure. I am currently modifying the rubric to fit with our new assessment policy and will try to have that to you for tomorrow.

Monday November 28

Mr. Fodchuk has left Tom Baines a bit early because of an illness. He is working to get caught up on the assignment and projects that he did while he was here with the students. Ms. McAuley and myself are working hard to finish off the projects that he had begun so that we can see them through and so that the students understand that their hard work was not in vain.

It is my understanding that Mr. Fodchuk will most likely not be available for Parent Teacher and Student Led Conferences because of his illness. Ms. McAuley, and I, will do our best to reflect the learning that your child has undergone during the last two months. However, Mr. Fodchuk was teaching 100% of this time and therefore our evidence may be limited. We are doing our best to get his assessments in and online so that you can review them. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.

I hope to send out a letter tomorrow in regards to the current situation so that you are well informed.

Thank you.

7-01 & 7-07

  • We are trying to finish off the work from Mr. Fodchuk. This included having the students present their stories and hand in their planning, and work on their News Cast skits that they will be presenting tomorrow. There will likely be some time for them tomorrow to work on this as well but I would recommend that they come prepared to present.
  • Remember that you must bring a novel on Monday and Wednesday. This should not be a surprise as we have been doing this since the start of the year. Please make sure that you are staying on top of things.

8-04

  • You will be given some time tomorrow to work on your Worldview Skits before you perform them in front of the class.
  • Overall, excellent job on the poetry. It was great to see some of you taking a chance and challenging yourself during this topic. I hope that you are also more aware of what poetry is and that you are no longer afraid to express yourself.
