  • Today our Reading Response Journal entry was due. Your next response is due two weeks from today, Thursday November 10

  • Please finish the notes for pages 29-32 in the textbook for tomorrow, Friday October 28. Remember that we are doing this for the information but also to look at how we are taking notes and gathering information. I am going to show you a few tricks that will hopefully help you improve in these areas.
  • We looked at and talked about good presentation skills and I asked you to create a list of “What makes for good public speaking” before we watched the videos and talked about it and after. We will be using this information tomorrow, Friday October 28, so please have it ready.

Wednesday October 27

  • Please check your online marks for comments about your Middle Ages project.
  • Today we spent some time working on writing and exploring poetry. It is great to see so many more people wanting to share their work with the class. I was even more surprised when you asked about doing a Poetry Slam after I should you “On What Teacher’s Make” by Taylor Mali and “We Are More” by Shane Koyczan. You can take a look at some of the other work they have done by searching them up on Youtube. If you put in “Poetry Slam” you can find much more too.
  • We began working on some note taking skills that we will continue to work on tomorrow once you have time for independent reading.

  • There are still many of you forgetting to bring your books to class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • You told me that you do not feel like you have the skills required to do research and present your findings. Therefore, I am going to work with you over the next little while to improve these skills so that you do feel comfortable doing some. We will look at: note taking, web based resources, boolean searching, presentation (PowerPoint type), and speaking skills. We will see how this goes.
  • Remember that your first reading response journal is due this Thursday, October 27.
  • We finished the CTBS testing for Reading Comprehension today and for those of you that are interested in finding out how you did please come and talk to me.

Monday October 24

8-04

  • I am happy to say that we have finished our presentations on the Middle Ages. I have learned a lot from these presentations. I realized that many of you need some help with developing your research and presentation skills. The majority of you agreed based on the question I asked you this morning. I was pleased that some of you took some risks presenting though many of you did not. Remember your presentations are not for me they are for your peers, so try to think about what you find interesting because there is a chance so would your peers.
  • Remember to have your novel tomorrow, also, your first Reading Response Journal is due this Thursday October 27.
