7-01 & 7-07

  • Remember to bring your novels on Mondays and Wednesdays
  • Finish your presentations for Mr. Fodchuk
  • Try to think about your life and the lives of the students in Freedom Writers. Also think about how Mrs. Gruwell changes the lives of her students. Now, think about your Journal/Workshop book and what connections we will be making throughout the year.

8-04

  • Remember to bring your novels on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Consider what you have learned so far about Worldviews; the elements that can influence it and how your worldview influences you. Try to think about your life and the lives of the students in Freedom Writers. Also think about how Mrs. Gruwell changes the lives of her students. Consider the discussions we have had in class and try to make connections about how I am approaching your learning this year.

Thursday September 29

  • School Photo form deadline has been extended until tomorrow. Please make sure that you get these in. Please check the D2L Calendar to find out when retakes are. I believe they are near the end of October though.
  • October Scholastic Book Order Deadline has been changed to Wednesday October 12 because of the long weekend.

7-01 & 7-07

  • Continue working on the project for Mr. Fodchuk. You will be giving your presentations on Monday October 3.
  • Please start bringing a fiction book (novel) to class on every Monday and Wednesday. We will be beginning this next week.

8-04

  • Hopefully you all handed in your Worldview chart. Remember that those seven elements are things that will influence your worldview.
  • We will continue watching Freedom Writers tomorrow. Please think about the elements on the chart to try to figure out what things are influencing the worldviews of the students in the movie.

Tuesday September 27

  • Terry Fox Run & Pep Rally is tomorrow which is why it is a Day 7.

8-04

  • I am disappointed with the effort that many of you are putting into the class, your participation, and your work. I try to provide as much time as possible for you to complete your work and I try to present your learning in a way that you will find enjoyable. Please understand that their is a purpose to everything we do in class and for you to get the most out of your learning I am asking that you complete all of the assignments to the best of your ability. It is your responsibility to keep up with your work and if you are needing help to ask for it.
  • I will be collecting your work that you should have already finished on this Friday, September 30.
  • We continued to look at Worldview today and you were asked to try and reflect on the elements that affect your personal worldview. To better understand this you may want to take a look at the “People of Isol” activity that I posted yesterday. On Thursday we will be breaking into groups to explore the worldview of 8-04, Tom Baines School, and Calgary.
  • On Tuesday and Thursdays I am asking that you bring a fiction book (novel) to class as you will be given time to read. If you are unable to find a “Just Right Book” then please let me know as I can help you with this.

Monday September 26

  • October Scholastic Book Orders forms are ready to go out. October orders are due by Friday October 7.
  • School Pep Rally and Terry Fox run is this Wednesday September 28. This is why it is a Day 7.
  • Please remember to get all of your forms in.

7-01 & 7-07

  • Mr. Fodchuk went over a project that we will be beginning tomorrow. Remember to meet him in the Learning Commons for class.
  • We begin working on our “Writing Territories” Workshop. Please try to get down as many ideas as possible as we will be visiting this again on Thursday.

8-04

  • We continued to work on deepening our understanding of how elements affect our worldview and in turn how our worldview affects our own personal views.
  • Hopefully everyone had enough time to interview all of the People from Isol. If not please finish this as we will be discussing the worldview of the people from Isol tomorrow.

Thursday September 22

Monday September 26 is the last and final day to get your Scholastic Book Orders in. I will hand out the October Catalogues then.

7-01 & 7-07

  • Freedom Writers permission forms are due on Monday. If you do not bring back your form you will not be watching the movie.
  • Today we spent time exploring e-portfolios on D2L. I encourage you to plan around with it on your own time so that you can become more comfortable with it. The next thing I will be showing you is how to set up a WordPress blog as an e-portfolio.

7-01 & 7-07

  • We set up our Journal / Workshop books today and started with a Reading Workshop in which we explored how to select the right books for us.
  • We continued looking at perspectives be looking at what we saw, how we feel, and what we were thinking when in different spacial locations.
  • Tomorrow we will likely begin creating our e-portfolios
  • Please return the Freedom Writers permission for ASAP, as in tomorrow, or Monday at the latest.

8-04

  • Mr. Fodchuk was working with the students today getting them to start thinking about their learning and how this will connect with Humanities

8-04

  • We began exploring the idea of “Worldview” I was a bit disappointed with the effort that many of the students put into their work. They were given 45 minutes to complete a simple assignment and only a few students were able to do so. Therefore, the assignment is attached here and you are to finish it for tomorrow. You will likely have to use an online version of the textbook by going into D2L
  • Tomorrow we will be continuing this and hopefully be able to start looking at our own personal worldview and the worldview that Calgary has.
