All scholastic book orders will be due on Friday September 23. Please make sure that if you are submitting a cheque that it is made out to Tom Baines School. This will speed up the ordering process as I can submit everything as one order.

7-01 & 7-07

  • We explored the Passport to the Internet to allow the students to learn about ways to stay safe, secure, and ethical while online.
  • Mr. Fodchuk will likely be starting his student teaching in our class on Monday.

8-04

  • We also began exploring the Passport to the Internet but then I was soon notified by the students that many of them had done this last year. As a result we moved forward and began watching the PBS documentary “Digital Nation” I think many of the students were already able to make connections to the small part they have seen. We will be continuing this on next Friday but if want to watch it sooner you can follow this link.

Thursday September 15

7-01, 7-07, & 8-04

  • Today we learned about and used digital cameras. We also used Garageband to record our voice and we got to see how we could use iMovie to put together items to showcase our learning. The hope is that by exposing students to different resources, such as the ones we used today and the Web 2.0 tools we explored yesterday, they will be able to integrate some of these ideas into their work.
  • Tomorrow we will be looking at the internet, online environments, and how to protect ourselves.
  • I handed out Scholastic Book Order forms today and to my surprise there were many more students interested than I had though. Here is a digital copy of the catalogues Arrow, Teen RC, & Click!  Please remember that all cheques should be made out to Tom Baines School. Friday September 23 will be the last day for collecting order forms for September.

Wednesday September 14

7-01, 7-07, & 8-04

  • Be began exploring Web 2.0 tools. However, we experienced some technical difficulties with the computers, and as a result this did not go nearly as well as I would have liked. Many students were to begin looking at the tools and seeing how they might be able to create artifacts for their e-portfolios and how they could use these tools for some of their other classes. Here is a link to the list of tools.
  • Tomorrow we will be using digital cameras to record video and take pictures. We will be using this along with Garage Band and IMovie to showcase a few more skills.
  • I will be handing out Scholastic Book Order forms to the students that would like them. If you would like a head start here are the catalogues that we can order from: Arrow, Teen RC, & Click!

Tuesday September 13

I would like to say thank you to my three classes, 7-01, 7-07, 8-04, for being wonderful classes when I was gone yesterday. Ms. Peters, the teacher that was covering for me, said that everyone was well behaved though chatty at times. It is nice to be able to come back to see that things went well.

7-01, 7-07, & 8-04

  • Make sure to look over the rubric and instructions for the Visual Poetry assignment before you hand it in. You can find the assignment on a previous post. This is due tomorrow, Wednesday September 14.
  • Remember to get your forms in because we will be starting to look at Web 2.0 tools tomorrow. Here is a link to the presentation that I shared with you today. Thought some of you might want to take a look.

I was away today as I was not feeling well. I hope that everyone had enough time to finish or at least get close to finishing your Visual Poetry assignment. Remember that it is due on Wednesday September 14.

  • All forms need to be in by Monday. I want to start creating e-portfolios and showing you web 2.0 tools on Tuesday and I cannot do this unless I have the forms back.
  • Visual Poem assignment is due on Wednesday September 14. However, Monday will be the last class time given for this. You may want to work on this over the weekend.

  • Think about your Learning Styles and Multiple Intelligence that we went over the last few days. The purpose of this was to get you thinking about your learning. Here is a sheet with more information about how you can use this new knowledge about yourself.
  • I have already seen some amazing work on the Visual Poetry project. Make sure to look over the requirement and the rubric so that you can do the best possible job. Also, if you think you are behind you might want to work on this at home.
