Tuesday September 6

Congratulations on surviving your first full day back at school. I hope that everything is going smoothly and that you are excited for another year of learning and discovering.

I will do my best to update this are of my site on a daily basis; however, sometimes other things interfere with my ability to do so. Therefore, I highly recommend that you use your agenda and the D2L site to assist you in keeping up to date and organized.

7-01

  • Return all of the school forms ASAP
  • Take a look at D2L and my website
  • Return the Humanities Course Outline, Mr. Lang Letter, Blog/Web 2.0 letter, and the Meeee sheet ASAP. I would like to start creating portfolios with you later this week and require some of these forms in order to do so.

Tuesday June 14

7-01 & 7-07

  • Final project is due by 3:31 pm on Monday June 20th. You will have Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week as well as Monday June 20th to work on your project. Make sure to keep using your class time so that you will be done on time.

9-29

Monday June 13

7-01 Life Skills

  • Please remember to hand in your Citizenship assessment sheets as soon as possible please.

7-01 & 7-07

  • You will have the rest of this week and Monday of next week to finish your projects. This Thursday is a half day but you are in your homerooms for the day so you will be able to work on it for four periods this day also.  The entire project is due by 3:31 on Monday June 20th. We will begin marking it that afternoon so no late assignments will be accepted. Plus, if you used your class time well you should have no problem finishing on time.

9-29

  • Come ready and prepared to present your You-topia project tomorrow Tuesday June 14. Look at the handout for what is expected in your presentation. It does not have to be anything fancy it is more of sharing than anything.

Friday June 10

7-01 (Life Skills)

  • Please remember to fill out and bring back your Citizenship assessment that we were working on Friday. If possible please return it by Tuesday June 14.

7-01 & 7-07

  • The computers at school have not been that reliable the last few days so I would not recommend expecting to use them and wasting your time. Try to do as much “computer” work at home and then work on the other parts of your project at school.
  • Still waiting for a few last students to bring in their Field Trip Forms

9-29

  • Because we decided to view a Grade 7 Drama production we will not have class time on Monday to work on the You-topia project. If we return to the class early then we can use that time. Therefore, the project is due on Tuesday June 14 so be ready to present. After the presentations we will begin our PAT review/practice.

Thursday June 9

  • Grade 7 students please get your field trip forms in as they are due tomorrow and I am still missing quite a few.
  • I am also still working on finishing marking your short stories. I am getting through them but it is a lengthy process.

7-01 & 7-07

  • It is great to see so many of you completely engaged by your end of the year projects and things are starting to come together. Remember that you can work on this as home as well but we need to see you working on all aspects of the project at school as well. The project is due by the end of Monday May 20. We have decided to give you a little bit of extra time so that you could do the best work possible.

9-29

  • You-topia project is due on Monday June 13. You will be given part of the class on this day to finish everything up. Considering we started this on Tuesday this should be ample time if you were using your time effectively. After this we will be doing a few days of SS PAT prep and review so that you feel comfortable and confident going into the test.

Monday June 6

7-01 & 7-07

  • All marks have been uploaded for your Immigration Story and Reading Response. However, I am still working on your short stories and will update them as I mark them but I am waiting until I am completely finished before handing any back.
  • Field Trip Forms for our Friday June 24 trip to Heritage Park – Get them back deadline is this Friday June 10. Please remind your parents about volunteering.
  • We began working on the Final Project for Blue Pod that combines all four core subjects (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) as a way of having the students showcase their learning from the year. The project is large but the students will be working on it for the next two weeks in their Humanities, Math, and Science classes. This should be ample time for the students to do this. We ask that they do the majority of the work at school so we can monitor their progress and assist them if it is needed.

9-29

  • Some of you were asking for copies of the information that we went over Friday and today about our taxes and social programs in Canada so I have attached them both. Presentation 1, Presentation 2
  • I also handed out a project that we are going to begin tomorrow and work on for about a week in groups as a review. This will be the last item I am assessing for Term 4.

Tuesday May 31

I recommend that everyone holds on to assignments and projects when they are handed back so if there is a concern with your mark it can be addressed. A great example of this was one of my Grade 9 students noticed that her D2L mark showed that she was missing an assignment. She showed me the assignment and the mark on it and I made the corrections. However, if she did not have the assignment and the mark I would have had a really hard time giving her any marks for it. Remember that your teachers are humans and make mistakes especially when we see so many students. Therefore, make sure you are on top of things just in case your teachers are not.

7-01 & 7-07

  • Today was the last day that we will be working in the Learning Commons on your Children’s Immigration Story Project. Tomorrow and Thursday we will be in the class with laptops. Remember that you must be ready to present on Friday June 3 because we are beginning our final project next week and will have no time for this.

9-29

  • Today was the last class I am giving you to work on the “Quality of Life in Canada” assignment. All you should have left to do is Part 2. Remember that you can access the report card and article in the Social Studies 9-29 D2L shell. This is due on Friday June 3.

Friday May 27

I would like to remind everyone that there is still a month of school left and although you can see the end you are not there yet. Please remember to stay focused and to use your class time wisely so that you do not fall behind. Many teachers will be trying to finish things up and being going at a faster pace now that we are approaching June so be prepared.

7-01 & 7-07

  • Thank you to everyone that handed in your short stories. As I mentioned before, if you did not talk to me about handing in your short story late then I will not accept after today. This is only way to  be fair to the students that completed it on time and also to me who will be marking them.
  • Continue working on the research for the Immigration Story project. I recommend that you have all of your required research finished by the end of Monday. This will then give you three full days to put your story together before you are presenting on Friday June 3.

9-29

  • You will have more time on Monday to finish working on Quality of Life in Canada assignment. However, for Monday you should be on question “F”. Remember that you can access all of the required material through D2L.
