Wednesday February 23

Grrr… Board. Remember that your names can appear on this if you:

  • Are late to class
  • Are not prepared for class
  • Did not hand in an assignment on time
  • Are not doing what you are supposed to be doing in class

I will be doing a better job at reporting on these. There is no way to get your name off of the board, but after three times up there I will be making a call home informing your parent(s) about the reasons your name appears on the board.

7-01 & 7-07

  • I know that we have experienced some technical difficulties during the last few weeks but Friday’s double period will be the last time I can provide you to work on your Truth and Torture Radio Drama. You have been given ample time and I believe that there are only a couple of groups that may not be able to meet this deadline. Please figure out how you will get this done on time. We will be listening to these plays early next week.

9-29

  • You will have time on Friday, February 25, and Monday and Tuesday next week to complete the research portion of the “My Life in a Trunk” project. You should be doing some work at home to ensure that you are where you should be on this assignment.

Tuesday February 22

7-01 & 7-07

  • You will have time tomorrow and if needed on Friday to finish recording your Truth and Torture Radio Drama and to polish it up. This should be plenty of time considering the amount of time you have already been given.

9-29

  • Now that you know which country your immigrant is coming from you can select the time period he/she will be travelling. Please come prepared to research tomorrow as we will be in the Learning Commons and need to use all of the time we can. Since Thursday is an integration day we will continue this on Friday.

Wednesday February 16

7-01 & 7-07

  • Please come prepared on Tuesday February 22 ready to work on the Truth and Torture Radio Drama as we do not have much more time left to complete this.

9-29

  • The following questions are due for Tuesday February 22: Immigration & Collective Rights of Aboriginal People (pg 183) CTC; Where immigrants settle (pg 188) CTC x 2; Provinces & Immigration Policies (pg 189-191) CTC x 3 [ CTC = Critical Thinking Challenge]

Tuesday February 15

Please remember that almost all of the group or partnered projects that we do can be done as individual projects. Also, if you have a different approach to something or a different idea about how you would like to approach something please come and talk to me. Remember that it is your learning and therefore you need to take charge of it and advocate for it.

7-01 & 7-07

  • You should have your published copy of the Truth and Torture script printed. Also, you should have recorded at least have of your sound effects and found the rest. Come prepared and ready to work in class because I can not provide you with much more time.
  • Please remember to bring novels on Mondays and Wednesdays.

9-29

  • Tomorrow we will continue looking at how immigration in Canada affects First Nations People and the province of Quebec. We will spend time looking at the positive aspects of immigration in Canada as well.
  • You will receive an assignment tomorrow (I am being discreet as I don’t want to give it away yet) so that you can take a look at it over your five day weekend so you can come back ready to work.

Friday February 11

Please remember to return your green report card folders so that they can be used again.

Next week there is only school on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, because Thursday and Friday is Teacher’s Convention. The following Monday, is Family Day so you get a five day weekend.

7-01 & 7-07

  • For Monday February 14 you should have a published copy, with proper formatting, of your script, and also a list of all of the sound effects that will be used. For each sound effect you need to decide if you are going to make it or find it because you must make at least half of your sound effects.

9-29

  • Have all of your yes/no questions ready for Monday February 14 as we will ask the class to see who would be let in as an immigrant and who would not.

Thursday February 10

Report cards, glorious report cards. Please look over your report card and read all of the comments that your teachers have written. If you are not sure about, or disagree with a comment or mark please go and talk to your teacher to find out answers. Remember to approach them in a polite and respectful way because they really do want the best for you and there might have just been a mistake made.

Please bring in food for the “Give from the Heart Food Drive,” as I don’t believe that 7-01, 7-07, or 9-29 have brought anything in.

7-01 & 7-07

  • You should now been finishing your script and planning your sound effects for the Truth and Torture project

9-29

  • For tomorrow you should have Task 1 finished and partially finished Task 2. You will have a bit more time to finish this before we move on.
  • Thank you for taking yesterday seriously as I have already seen a huge improvement in your group work since yesterday. However, I would like you to think about two things that are working well in your group and one thing that needs improvement (two stars and a wish) and we will go over that tomorrow as well.

Wednesday February 9

7-01 & 7-07

  • Overall, an awesome job on the Passionate Poetic Perspective project. I was amazed by the quality of poetry and the ways that you were able to convey the meaning of your work. It was even more enjoyable for me to see many of you wanting to share the work you have done and how engaged the class was during the majority of the presentations. Keep up the great effort and continue to take risks.
  • Reading Response: 7-01Tuesday Feb 22, 7-07Wednesday Feb 16.
  • We will continue the peer editing portion of  the Truth and Torture project tomorrow.

9-29

  • Think about the discussion we had today about group work. Think about how this applies to you and also consider the rules that your groups came up with. Working collaboratively together is difficult but it is a skill that you all need to work on because it is incredibly important.

Monday February 7

7-01 & 7-07

  • Continue to think about your Torture and Truth radio drama/play. Remember that the radio part just refers to the fact that this is a sound recording so there will be no visual acting. We will continue working on this on Wednesday by finishing the peer editing. After that we will work on planning how you are going to put everything together before we start recording.
  • Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 8 we will begin the presentation of your Passionate Poetic Perspective project. You will be presenting at least one of your perspectives in front of the class and another two in small groups. If you do not present something that requires it to  be shown, such as singing a song, you then need to film or record it so that I can mark it later. Anything on the computer should be put into your D2L file locker, on a memory stick, or on a CD/DVD so that it can be handed in.

9-29

  • Ponder the test that I gave and also the reason for it. There is a purpose to everything that I do and you will only get out of it what you put in to it so please work on following directions while working on group tasks. Tomorrow we will continue look at the immigration groups and how they were received. We will follow this up by exploring the system that is used to allow immigrants into the country.
