Friday September 17

Thank you to all of the parents and students that came out for the Meet the Teacher evening. I am glad that I had the opportunity to introduce myself and share some of my teaching practice and philosophy with you. Please contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns.

  • Remember to bring your books to read for classes on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Finish the Student view/perspective for Designer Garb as well as the Parent view/perspective for Designer Garb for Monday September 20.
  • Make sure that you at least 15 points for your Writing Territories as we will be moving on during Tuesday’s class.

  • Start asking your parents, grandparents, and anyone else that might give you some insight into your heritage. Think about the questions that we brainstormed in class. Try to have the interviews finished for Wednesday September 22 because we are going to continue the assignment on this day.

Wednesday September 15

7-01 & 7-07

  • Please remember to have your novels for Monday’s class.
  • If you have not finished the first Designer Garb drawing about your “cool” outfit by colouring and labelling it then please finish this for tonight.

Monday Septmeber 13

Remember to use D2L to keep track of what is going on at the school, by looking at announcements, and also your marks. This way there are no surprises. You can also view the textbooks, course outlines, and some other information as well like the lunch menu. Take a look around and see what you can find.

I look forward to meeting all of your parents/guardians at the Meet the Teacher evening on Thursday September 16 at 7:00 pm. Remember that you should be coming with them to show them around and make sure that they do not get lost.

  • Hopefully you have already handed in your Yellow Pages assignment as it was due today.
  • Remember to bring your required materials to class (2 duotangs or 1 duotang and a work book) because we need them.
  • Make sure to bring a novel to read every Monday and Wednesday.
  • Your Visual Poetry assignment is due tomorrow Tuesday September 14. Please look over the handout and the rubric to ensure that you have not missed anything.

  • Today was the last day of class time to work on your Life’s Road Map assignment. I have extended the due date to Thursday September 16 as many of your stated that you need a bit more time. Hopefully you use this extra time wisely as this is the second extension given and therefore I am expecting amazing work.

Friday September 10 – Update

– UPDATE – I have updated the mark section to show all of the forms that have been handed in to me, or the emails I have received, as of Friday September 10. I planned on calling parents of students whose forms were not returned but because of the Welcome Back Dance I did not have time. Please bring your forms in on Monday if you are missing them so that I do not have to spend my Monday evening making calls.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all three of my classes for making the start of the year awesome. I am impressed by how hard the majority of you are working and also the quality of work that you are producing. Thank you for making my life easier and my job much more enjoyable.

  • Today was the last day to work on your Visual Poetry project. It is due on Tuesday September 14. Please make sure to read over the instructions and the rubric to ensure that you are doing everything that is needed.
  • Please remember to bring your two duo-tangs or else your one duo-tang and one coil ringed notebook for Monday. If you are having issues getting these please let me know and I will see what I can do.

  • I will be giving you class time on Monday September 13 to work on your Life’s Road Map project. It is great to see what some of you are coming up with and I look forward to seeing the final projects. The project is due on Wednesday September 15.

Thursday September 9

Please remember to return all of your forms. They should all be in already since you have had one week to get them in.

Welcome Back School Dance is tomorrow after school so come ready to party tomorrow.

Please look at the mark section of the website so that you can find out the forms that you have returned and which ones are still missing. Everyone has also been signed up into D2L so try to sign in to check out the daily announcements and also the textbooks.

  • Visual Poetry Assignment – Finish your brainstorming for tomorrow so that you are ready to begin planning and designing your cover and bookmark. Remember to look at the rubric to make sure that you are doing the best you can to receive the highest mark. It will likely be due on Monday September 13 but we will see how hard everyone is working.

  • Continue your brainstorming for the Life’s Road Map assignment. You will be given time tomorrow and Friday to work on the assignment. Decide how you will be presenting the assignment be it poster, globe, 3d map, video, on the computer, etc. You should be ready to start the designing portion of the assignment. The assignment will be due next week and the due date will be determined by your effort in the class and how much time is required.

Marks Section Up and Running

I have now updated the Marks section of the website to reflect the classes I am teaching this year. Please log in to see which forms you have returned and which forms are still missing.

I will do my best to update the marks section every time I have marked an assignment. However, depending on my schedule and other commitments that I have it may take me a few days to mark each assignment and update the marks online.
