Wednesday Sept 29

Remember that tomorrow is the Terry Fox Run. Please try to bring a donation if you are able to and also remember to bring a reusable water bottle to earn class points.

I would like to welcome Mrs. Veteikis as he will be joining our class every Monday and Tuesday for the remainder of the year as a student teacher from the University of Calgary.

7-01

  • Continue thinking about your presentation for the Canada Fair. Make sure to work on all of the items we discussed in class. Remember the point of this is to try and convince others to move to your province or territory.
  • Your first Reading Response Journal is due on Wednesday October 13. You have two weeks to work on this and refer back to your workshop duo-tang about how to approach your journal entries. There are a few hand outs in there as well as one workshop.

7-07

  • Continue thinking about your presentation for the Canada Fair. Make sure to work on all of the items we discussed in class. Remember the point of this is to try and convince others to move to your province or territory.
  • Your first Reading Response Journal is due on Wednesday October 20. You have two weeks to work on this and refer back to your workshop duo-tang about how to approach your journal entries. There are a few hand outs in there as well as one workshop.

9-29

  • Finish your face mosaic for Friday October 1.
  • Continue working on the Captain Canuck and the Branches of Government project. You will have more class time this week and likely a few days next week as well. We will determine a due date once we have put more time into it.

Tuesday Sept 28

7-01 & 7-07

Please remember your novels for tomorrow

Also, your notes for the Canada Fair should be finished as well.

9-29

Finish your “Face Mosaic” for Friday October 1. You will not be given any more class time to work on it.

Monday September 27

I would like to welcome Mr. Kuwahara as he will be joining our class every Monday and Tuesday for the remainder of the year as a student teacher from the University of Calgary.

7-01 & 7-07

  • Please finish your notes for the Canada Fair Project. Also, begin thinking about how you can market/sell your province/territory and make a convincing argument for people to move to it. We will begin working on this stage on Wednesday.
  • I asked that the Questions for Memoirists activity be completed for Tuesday; however, because of the movie “Freedom Writers” we will not be looking at this until Thursday. Now there are definitely no excuses for not getting it done.

9-29

  • Please have all of your information gathering completed for the “Who/What is Canada” assignment as you will be given more class time tomorrow to continue working on your “Face Mosaic.” Remember that this mosaic is a collage that is supposed to represent who you are. The head outline is only supposed to symbolize you and your collage does not need to resemble a face by any means.

Friday September 24

7-01 & 7-07

  • Monday will be the last class given to work on your research for the Canada Fair Project. If you are behind you may want to do some over the weekend.
  • Finish the Questions for Memoirists for Tuesday September 28.

Thursday September 23

7-01 & 7-07

  • Remember your “Freedom Writer” forms for tomorrow as they are needed to watch the movie on Monday.
  • Finish the Questions for Memoirists workshop for Tuesday September 28.
  • Remember to have your novels for every Monday and Wednesday
  • You may want to do some research for the Canada Fair project as tomorrow may be your last day to do this in class.

Wednesday September 22 – Updated

Update – Marks have been updated to reflect all assignments and forms handed in as of Wednesday, September 22. Please note that I have not updated 7-01 & 7-07’s Designer Garb assignment yet.

7-01 & 7-07

  • Start thinking about your Reading Response Journal and what we discussed in todays class about how to approach your journaling. I will explain due dates next week.
  • You may want to do some research for your province or territory for the Canada Fair Project.

9-29

  • If you have not yet interviewed your parents / relatives about your heritage then you must do so soon, as in now. We will be looking at and working with this information on Friday September 24.
  • Please answer the following questions about the movie “One Week.” How do Canadians represent themselves? and how did/do Canadians view the landmarks presented in the movie? You are welcome to answer the question in any means that you feel best suits your needs. Just make sure you answer the questions and that I will be able to understand what you are trying to show me (ie. interpretive dance, model, etc).

Monday September 20

7-01 & 7-07

  • Today I collected both Designer Garb outfits, the one from your perspective and also the one from a parent’s perspective. Please make sure that you are aware of due dates and that you follow them.
  • Think about what Province or Territory you would like to do for the Canada Fair. Also put some thought into whom you might want to partner with. Remember that your friends are not always the best or most wise choice.

9-29

  • Work on interviewing to find out more about your family and its history.

Marks Updated and New Section

I have updated all of the marks for 7-01, 7-07, and 9-29 to reflect all of the assignments and forms that have been handed in as of Friday September 17. There are numerous students in each class missing assignments so please log in to find out what you are missing. I have also suggested that some of you come and talk to me about your assignments and others may want to redo their work. Remember that I provide amble class time to work on your assignments and plenty of days between when we begin and when it is due. It is your responsibility to keep up with your work and produce the best work you are capable of. I am relaxed but I have high expectations.

On another note, I have added a “For Parents” section to the blog. I will be updating this section with articles that have influenced my teaching and the decisions that I make within the classroom with respect to my students and their learning. I will also try to provide articles here that may influence how you choose to parent.

Cheers,

Mr. Lang
