Monday May 17

I hope to see many of you at the Tom Baines Technology Night that takes place from 6:45 until 8:30 this evening.

I will do my best to complete the majority of my marking this evening before the night so that I can further update the online marks. Please make sure that you are checking these on a regular basis to ensure that you have everything handed in.

  • Those of you whom were away today will write your documentary quiz tomorrow.
  • Continue to write poetry at home so that you will have an ample collection when it comes to selecting some for your project.
  • Your next reading response journal is due this Wednesday May 19.

  • The rough draft of your short stories needs to be completed for tomorrow as you will have class time to edit them. As I mentioned in class, you may want to do some editing at home as well since many of you will need more than one class to complete this.
  • Continue working on your element of culture for your Japan group. The celebrations of these elements of culture will happen on Thursday May 20 so make sure that you are ready.

Friday May 14

  • Please work on your element of your Japanese societies culture. Even though our class is currently divided both groups will be presenting their work on Thursday May 20. Wednesday May 19 will be your last class to work on your cultures.
  • Hand in the next part of your completed Nisshi (journal) on Monday May 17.

Thursday May 14

Remember that tomorrow is Wacky Hair Day. 7-13 please try to remember because we could use some points for our class.

I have updated the Student Blogs page so please feel free to go and take a look at student blogs from 7-13.

Wednesday May 12

A big thank you goes to all of my students for putting up with the crazy yet quiet day. I know that the Grade 9 students appreciated the calm in their PAT writing areas. The day was very busy for me as I was running around trying to ensure things were running smoothly and all of you acted in responsible and respectful ways. It is great to know that I can trust you and that you are all awesome students.
7-13

  • Because many of you were worried about all of the exams/quizzes that you have tomorrow I have postponed the writing of your Social Studies quizzes until Monday May 17. I know that some of you will be away at Track and Field and you can just make it up when you get back.
  • Tomorrow will be the first day you are given to work on the presentation portion of your final project so please come prepared.
  • Please continue working on your poetry at home as we do not have much time at school to do this.

7-16

  • We will finish watching your documentaries tomorrow and then your quizzes will be on Monday May 17.
  • We will also begin the presentation portion of your final project next week.

8-CHA

  • Tomorrow will be the last class given to work on your short stories. I have been trying to provide you with extra time to work on them as I know that you are all very busy. However, they need to be completed for Tuesday May 18 because we are going to be continuing the writing process on that day. If you are not ready then you will just end up being further behind.

Tuesday May 11

7-13

  • Please work on your Blog that you created and remember to add me, [email protected], under permissions on your Blog so that I can have access to what you are doing. Please post the following questions along with the answers you have given to them on your Blog:
    1. Do computers give us more human connections or less human connections?
    2. If you had to write 5 rules for internet ethics and manners what would they be?
    3. Do you think teachers should encourage or discourage multitasking?
    4. Write a 6 word story summarizing an experience that you’ve had “living” online. Take a look at some of theĀ stories on the PBS website for inspiration.
  • We will finish watching the last documentary tomorrow and your quiz will be on Thursday. Please use the handouts, study guides, and also any notes you took while watching the documentaries to help you prepare for the quizzes. The quizzes are based on the documentaries and were created by you so hopefully they are straight forward.
  • Continue to work on writing poetry so that when we try to put your work together you will have a large collection to choose from. Also, we have had many interruptions from our class and therefore are a bit behind so I would recommend that you do some of this at home.
  • Your next Reading Response entry is due next weekend Wednesday May 19. This will be your second to last response of the year.
  • I would recommend that you continue working on the research for your Final Project as well as we will be working on the presentation portion next week.

Marks Updated

I have updated the online marks though not everything handed in will appear as I have not finished marking everything yet. These assignments also include those items completed with Mrs Hansen as well as Ms. Rashid. Please make sure that if you are missing something that you get it in as soon as possible as this term is over in six weeks.

There are currently no marks for 7-16 as we have continued to work on the Canadian Documentary project and will be watching it this week. There will be marks associated with the work done over the last few weeks.

  • Tomorrow will be the last class given for the research on your final project.
