Monday April 12

7-13 & 7-16

  • Today was the last possible day to film. There were about six groups that stayed after school to finish filming which means that either you had really long scripts or else maybe you did not plan your time as well as you could have.
  • Tomorrow both classes will be going to the Tyrell Museum so we will continue with our editing on Wednesday
  • 7-13 – Reading response is due on Wednesday April 14. Make sure that it is finished as it will be your last mark of this term.

8-CHA

  • Your next reading response journal entry is due on Wednesday April 21.
  • Continue working on your Edo Period questions and your Nisshi as they should be finished for Thursday’s class.
  • You will be giving your character presentation on Wednesday April 14 so make sure that you know your role, that your obi is completed and that your costume is ready.

Weekend Fun

It is now 9:13 on Sunday evening and I thought I would post to let 7-13 know that I have still not completed all of the marking of the short stories. I thank all of you for being patient as I try to get through them. Who thought that most of you would write on average eight page long stories, with the longest being thirty-two pages. Each story is taking me around one hour to mark as I look over your character outline, plot chart, the first and second draft, followed by your published copy. To help you improve on your writing I am also going through and editing your published copy while providing feedback. This is accompanied with typed up comments for each section so that you can have something to work with.

I think next year I might need to look at how  I do this assignment as I did not expect this time of work coming from Grade 7 students. You all continue to amaze me with what you are able to come up with.

I will do my best to have them all marked by Wednesday evening. Again, thank you for your patience. Remember to please let me know if you do not intend to read the comments because this would cut my marking time in half.

I hope everyone is getting lost of rest and enjoying some of the sunny weather we are getting.

Cheers,

Mr. Lang

Thursday April 8

7-13 & 7-16

  • Tomorrow is your last day of class to film your Canada Documentaries. However, you may come early in the morning tomorrow or on Monday or stay Monday after school. I informed everyone the week prior to Spring Break when this is due, how much time you had left and when you could work outside of class time. Yet, very few of you have come in to do this. I really hope all of your filming is done.

8-CHA

  • Next Reading Response Journal is due on Wednesday April 21.
  • You will be presenting your Japan Character and role next week, likely Thursday April 22.
  • You should already be bringing your costume and have your obi finished. Remember you should be wearing these items each day so be prepared.
  • Also, you should have started working on your nisshi and also the Edo Period Questions.

Wednesday April 7

7-13

  • Reading response journal is due on Wednesday April 14.
  • If you are behind on your documentary filming then plan on spending some extra time doing it in the next few days as Friday will be the last class time given for you to film and we will begin editing on Tuesday April 13.
  • I apologize for not finishing the marking of your short stories but I will try my best to have them done for Monday.

7-16

  • If you are behind on your documentary filming then plan on spending some extra time doing it in the next few days as Friday will be the last class time given for you to film and we will begin editing on Tuesday April 13.

8-CHA

  • Come prepared tomorrow with your costume to represent your Japanese character and also please try your best to finish your obis for tomorrow so that we can start getting more into the scenario.
  • I know it is hard for many of you but I would like to see more of your trying to portray the character and role that you have designed and are being asked to represent. The scenario will be much more interesting if you all do.

Back to School

I hope that everyone has had a nice break because it is time to come back to school and to get back to work. There are only about another two weeks left until the end of the third term so ensure that you check your marks and make sure that you have all of the required work handed in and that you have redone any assignments that need to be redone.

I have been busy marking but unfortunately have been unable to mark everything that I wanted to. Humanities 7-13 and Social Studies 7-16 Documentary Log Books, and Humanities 8-Chalet Persuasive Essays, and Reading Response Journals, have all been marked and updated online. However, it is taking me much longer to mark the Humanities 7-13 Short Stories.

The Persuasive Essays took me about ten hours to mark which I split over two days; however, the Short Stories are much longer, ranging from four pages to twenty-three pages and it is taking between thirty minutes and an hour to mark each one. I will do my best to get them marked by the end of the week. For both of these assignments I have typed up comments and made comments on the essays & short stories themselves so please take the time to look at them when I hand them back.

See everyone tomorrow.

Cheers,

Mr. Lang

Tuesday March 23

7-13

  • You must have your typed copy of your short story proof read and edited by a peer for Thursday’s class. For the majority of you this should not be a problem as you had all class to have someone look over your work; however, many of you were not prepared and therefore you will have to do this on your own time. On Thursday’s class we will have the laptops again and you will be taking your latest copy of your short story, with all of the corrections from the peer and individual proofreading, and editing, and making the final corrections to produce your finished product.

8-CHA

  • Make sure that your character outline is finished as we will be using those on Friday. Also, try to thing about some ideas for a family crest that you will be putting on your obi’s that we will begin creating.
