8-CHA

  • Look over the “Aztec Codex” project as we will continue with that tomorrow.
  • Make sure that you have selected your topic for your persuasive essay and that you come up with the main ideas that you would like to use to support your topic. Once you have these you can start doing research to find evidence to support what you are saying.

Monday Jan 11

7-13

  • Remember that your Reading Response Journal is due on Wednesday January 13 and that you have had extra time to complete it as I did not make you hand in one before the Winter Break.

8-CHA

  • Your paragraph write up from 1492 – Conquest of Paradise is due tomorrow. You were aware of the question before watching the movie so you should have been able to take enough notes to answer the questions sufficiently. Remember that you need to support what you are saying with evidence just like you do in your Reading Response Journal and in your persuasive essay.
    • The question is, “How did exploration and intercultural contact during the Renaissance affect the citizenship and identity of Europeans?”

Thursday Jan 7

  • Make sure that your documentary notes are finished and ready to be handed in tomorrow.
  • Organize and make sure you have everything that you need to have in your Reading & Writing Workshop Duotang as I will be going through them soon. Remember you are responsible for getting the information that you need when you are away from school.
  • Continue thinking about your plot and character development for your short stories.

7-16

  • Think about how you are able to turn your research questions and information into a movie. We will continue working on the Story Boards.

8-CHA

  • Think about 1492- Conquest of Paradise and the notes you have taken for it regarding how intercultural contact changed European identity during the Renaissance as we will be finishing the movie tomorrow.
  • Work on the itches that you need scratching to try and come up with a topic that you feel passionate about and want to persuade others about.

Wednesday Jan 6

7-13

  • We will continue working on the Canadian Documentary project tomorrow. Your group notes should be finished by the end of class on Thursday January 7.

Marks Updated

Marks have been updated as of 8:45 based on anything that was handed in by the end of the day, yesterday, Tuesday, January 5.

I would like to remind everyone that I will no longer accept assignments with out a name on them as I will simply recycle them. I am doing this because it has been a hassle for me to chase down students who forget to put their names on their assignments since you should recognize if you did not receive something back. Furthermore, it makes it much more difficult for me to mark days later.

Anything handed in late, redone, or improved upon must have a note on it explaining to me what you would like me to mark or look at again. If items are not organized then I will hand them back to you to be organized and handed back in before I mark them.

Cheers,

Mr. Lang

8-CHA – Reading Response

Remember that I am not interested in hearing about the story as I can read it myself. I would like you to talk about your opinoins of the story. This of course can be backed with evidence from the story or your life. Make sure to read the comments I have left on your response so that you can improve. You can now also see the comments that I have left for you by logging into your marks.

Please refer to your Reading & Writing Workshop duo-tang for further information on how to approach your Reading Response Journal. If you need help please come and see me well before the due date so that there is time for me to talk things over with you.

Tuesday Jan 5 & Marks

Welcome back to school. I wanted to thank everyone for settling in nicely today and for being able to get right back into the grind of things.

Make sure to check your marks online to find out how you are doing, what your are missing, and what you might want to redo. The marks have been updated with everything that was handed in prior to the winter break. I will try my best to get things that were handed in late marked.

7-13

  • We will continue working on the Canadian Documentary project tomorrow. Your group notes should be finished by the end of class on Thursday January 7.
  • Make sure that you are ready tomorrow to take some more notes on plot based on the movie “9” as we will finish watching it tomorrow. The reason we are doing this is to help you think about the short stories you are going to be writing and how to approach your plot.

7-16

  • During tomorrow’s class you will be given more time to work on the Canadian Documentary Project group notes. There will be laptops for you to use in class to help you if you need them. If you are already done then you can start working on the next portion of the assignment. Your notes will be collected at the end of class tomorrow Wednesday January 6.

8-CHA

  • Excellent job on your Passionate Poetic Perspective Projects and also the Invention / Discovery Project. I was really impressed with the work that many of you are doing. Now I just have to get all of you to realize that you are capable of doing amazing work and that you should be proud of what you are doing.
  • Remember that your next Reading Response Journal entry is due tomorrow Wednesday January 6. Remember that you were given an extension on this until after the Winter Break so there is no excuse for not having it done.
  • Come prepared, or for some of you not prepared for your 30 second speeches tomorrow. Remember that we are starting to look at persuasive writing and that the point of tomorrow is to try to convince everyone that you are on expert on the topic you are talking about.
  • Continue to think about the question that I asked you to take notes on while watching 1492 – Conquest of Paradise.

Marking

I have spent the last few days marking non stop trying to get everything finished before returning to school. Things are taking me much longer as I have realized that I am spending between 20 and 30 minutes on each memoir, 10 to 15 minutes on each Invention / Discovery project, and about 15 to 20 on each Passionate Poetic Perspective project. This is about 23 hours worth of marking on the low end of the scale and about 32 hours on the high end. All in all the reason I am writing this is to let you know that I can not promise that I will have everything done for Tuesday January 5, when we return back to school. Please bare with me and I will try to have everything marked and posted on line as soon as possible.

I hope that everyone had a wonderful winter break and that you are excited and ready to return to school.

Cheers,

Mr. Lang
