Tuesday Dec 8

7-13

  • We will be recording our memoirs on Thursdays class. This will also be the day that you will be handing in your first draft, second draft, published copy, personalized proof reading list, and the reflection to you as well as another person completed. We have been working on these memoirs for a long time now so it is expected that they are completed and handed in on Thursday.
  • Think about whom you would like in your group of six people for your Canada Documentaries. Also start thinking about which topics you would like to cover as we will be selecting all of this tomorrow.

7-16

  • We started the initial stages of planning for our Canada Documentaries. The class decided that it was best if I selected your groups for you so for tomorrow please start thinking about which topics you would like to cover as we will be selecting these tomorrow.

8-CHA

  • Please be aware that the due date for the Invention / Discovery project has been extended to Monday December 14 to allow you more time to complete it. Therefore, for the rest of this week it will be up to you to decide what you are working on during your Humanities classes.

Monday Dec 7

Many students are forgetting to hand in work be it that it is not at school, not done, or not done well; either way this is not acceptable and you need to take on the responsibility of ensuring that this work gets compeleted.

7-13

  • Remember to have your memoirs with you tomorrow with your portion of the reflection done as we will be working on the second part tomorrow.
  • Great job on your monologues. It was really cool to see some of you sounding, acting, as well as dressing the part.
  • Next reading response journal is due this Wednesday December 9

  • Passionate Poetic Perspective Projects are due on Wednesday December 16 as we will begin presenting them that day. Please be prepared and if you require more information check the Tests / Projects entry for it.
  • You will not have a Reading Response Journal entry due next Wednesday as I am giving you a break before the holiday and also because of the fact that many of you have lots of work already to complete. Your next response will be due on Wednesday, January 6, 2010. This is the day after you get back for the break so please have it ready.

Marks Updated & Minimal Effort from Many Students

All marks have been updated as of Sunday December 6 at 8:30 PM.

It is important to check your marks to see how you are doing and to see what you are missing. I am disappointed with the minimal effort many of you are putting into your school work. Roughly 1/3 of you (11 from 7-13, 6 from 7-16, & 12 from 8-CHA) are missing at least one assignment which is not acceptable especially when I provide you with ample class time as well as extra time at home to complete your work.

I would recommend that more of you start using your agendas or any other means to keep track of due dates. I take the time to regularly update my website and your marks so there are two other places you can check.

Remember it is your learning and you are the only one that can change how it is going. Please come and talk to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thursday Dec 3

  • Finish your reflection on your memoir. On Monday we will be having another person do a reflection on your memoir for you.
  • Practice your monologue for Monday December 7 as you will be presenting them in small groups. I encourage you to dress up, change your voice, bring props or anything else you can think of to make your monologue better.

  • Continue working on the “Passionate Poetic Perspective” project because the deadlines, as we talked about in class, will catch up on you if you do not plan your time appropriately.

Wednesday Dec 2

8-CHA – Reading Response

Remember that I am not interested in hearing about the story as I can read it myself. I would like you to talk about your opinoins of the story. This of course can be backed with evidence from the story or your life. Make sure to read the comments I have left on your response so that you can improve.

Please refer to your Reading & Writing Workshop duo-tang for further information on how to approach your Reading Response Journal. If you need help please come and see me well before the due date so that there is time for me to talk things over with you.

Tuesday Dec 1

Remember that on Thursday December 3 you will be handing in your first, and second draft, as well as your personalized proof reading list, and your published / final copy.
  • Make sure that you have selected which individual you will be creating your “Many Faces of New France” monologue for as we will continue working on this tomorrow.

  • Create your chart explaining which four poems you will be using for your “Passionate Poetic Perspective” project as well as what you will be doing for each and which category it fits in. Please have this ready for our next class so that you can begin working on it.
  • Today was day one of part one of your Renaissance Inventions / Discoveries project. Tomorrow will also be used to work on part one but that is all the class time I will be giving for that as on Thursday we will begin working on part two which has you putting the project together. Click on the link under Tests & Projects to find out more.

  • Overall great job on the debate last week. Make sure that you are using your information chart that you filled out during the debate to make your decision on your response and support it. Remember that this portion is worth half of the marks on the debate and is due on Thursday December 3.
  • For tomorrow begin thinking about which invention or discovery you would like to use to create your children’s book. Come ready to do research as tomorrow counts as 1 of your 2 days.
