8-CHA

  • Now that we have completed the debate you have to decide which Renaissance Thinker the University of Calgary is going to be naming their new center for the student of Renaissance Arts and Science after. Use the information that you gathered during the debate on your chart to help you support your decision. Remember, the debate was only one portion of this assignment and will count for half of your mark. Therefore, it is important to support your decision with evidence from the debate showing who the building should and should not be named after. This portion of the assignment is due on Thursday December 3.

  • You will be given more time to type up your memoir on Tuesday December 1. This was also be the last day that you are given to type it in class and it is to be handed in with your two drafts and your personal proof reading list on Thursday December 3.
  • The “Imperialism” assignment is due tomorrow, Friday November 27, as we will be going over it and sharing your amazing work with the other students in the class. Please make sure that it is done to the best of your ability and ready to go.
  • The “British and French Colonies Venn Diagram” is due on Tuesday December 1. You will have some more class time on Monday to work on it.

  • Awesome start to the debate today. I was really impressed with the information that many of the groups have come up with.
  • Remember to select your four poems, three that you have written, and one from someone or somewhere else for your “Passionate Poetic Perspective” project. Once you have done this think about how you can represent the poem. We will do some brainstorming tomorrow or early next week to help you with this if you are having trouble. Remember that I am here to help you so please bounce your ideas off of me.

8-CHA – Name the Building Debate

Our debate will take place on Thursday November 26 so make sure that you are working hard to figure out ways to counter other groups arguments and make yours stand out.

Work with your group to go over the handout to ensure that you are covering all of the topics that you need to and also finding out how you will get marked. There are some different components to the project so please ask if you are not completely sure what to do or how to approach the topics.

Hum 7-13 – Reading Response Journal

Your next reading response journal entry is due on Wednesday November 25 as there is no school on the Wednesday November 11 because of Remembrance day. Therefore, it made sense to allow another two weeks to complete this.

Remember that I am not interested in hearing about the story as I can read it myself. I would like you to talk about your opinoins of the story. This of course can be backed with evidence from the story or your life. Make sure to read the comments I have left on your response so that you can improve.

  • The second draft of your memoir needs to be edited by yourself using your personal proofreading list as well as by two other people for Thursday November 26 as we will be working on our final copy that day. If you are not ready to go then you will have to spend some of your own time outside of class at the school finishing it up.
  • Remember that your next reading response journal is due tomorrow. I am glad to see that a number of you have come to me to get some help on it. Please continue to do this so that we can work together to help improve your learning.
  • Tomorrow will be the last class given to work on your Imperialism assignment. Remember that it is due Friday November 27 so that gives you some extra time to finish up if you need it. There is some awesome work happening on these and I am excited to see what you will come up with.

  • Vertigo Theater Tomorrow so make sure that you have a packed lunch that does not require heating or hot water as it will not be available. Remember your manners when you are there and also try to dress up a little it or at least presentable for the performance.
  • Today was supposed to be the last class to work on your debate preparation with your group. However, I will try and give you some time tomorrow when we return from the theater. Remember that you need to be ready to go for Thursday November 26 when we have the debate.
  • We will be starting our Passionate Poetic Perspective project on Thursday. Try to bring in your collection of poetry so that you can start selecting the pieces that you would like to work with.

  • Keep thinking about the debate and using D2L to communicate with the other members in your group. It is important that your group continues to work hard during class by delegating tasks and working together because tomorrow will be the last class that you have to put your arguments, rebuttals, and statements together. The debate will be on Thursday Nov 26.
  • Please look over the comments that I gave you on your reading response journal so that you know how to improve. I am glad to see that more of you are enjoying the mats.

Marks Updated

I doubt that anyone will be looking at their marks at this time at night. Regardless, they have been updated with all of the assignments up to this date. Please make sure that you keep your assignments to compare the mark you receive on them to the mark that is showing up online. For those of you that have been putting in a great deal of effort and working hard this term keep it up, for those of you who owe me assignments, finish them and get them in as this is not a good way to start the second term.
