Parent Teacher Conferences begin tomorrow. Please look at the handout that was included with the progress report to see the times of the conferences and how they will be run.

  • Revised copy of your second draft is due on Tuesday November 24. You should have already done your own proofreading and editing based on your personal list for this day so that the rest of the day can be spent on having others look over it.
  • Please finish the Painting Interpretation assignment that we were working on today in class. Tomorrow we will continue using D2L to discuss the images on there in the discussion.

  • Reading Response Journal is due tomorrow. Remember that I gave you two weeks off so there is no reason for it not to be finished.
  • I briefly discussed the Passionate Poetic Perspective, poetry project, today in class. Make sure that you are starting to look at your poetry to determine which ones you would like to use for the project. Also, try to find a poem that you did not write to use. This can be from anywhere including another student in the class, but it can not be one that they are using.
  • I have set up the D2L discussion for each debate group so that you can share information on there. It was great to see many of you working together and using the online environment to share your information. Tomorrow will be the last class given to find your information. You will be given time on Monday and Tuesday next week to put your arguments and rebuttals together for our debate that will take place on Thursday November 26.

  • We started working on our next Social Studies project, “Name the Building” a Renaissance Thinkers Debate. Our debate will take place on Thursday November 26 so make sure that you are working hard to figure out ways to counter other groups arguments and make yours stand out.

Tomorrow we will be participating in the school’s Remembrance Day Assembly. Please make sure that you take it seriously as you think about all of those that have made sacrifices for us. Also, please remember to bring your donation for a poppy.

  • I am rather disappointed that so many of you did not finish your “Italian City State” project especially since I extended the due date by an entire week to help you out. Many of you need to make sure that you are using your class time more effectively as I will no longer allow extensions if you have been wasting your, and my, class time.

8-CHA Italian City State Project

After talking to all of you I realized that you might have too much on your plates right now so the deadline has been changed yet again. Italian City States project is now due on  Monday November 9. Makes sure that you check your rubric to see how you are getting marked and also read through the assignment and its requirements so that you ensure you are able to get the best mark possible. There are many people that made did not do this on the last project which resulted in lower marks than expected for some.

Report Cards

Please check your marks to make sure that I have not made any mistakes and let me know ASAP. I will be doing my report cards sometime between now, camping on the weekend with the Grade 8 and 9 Outdoor Ed Students and Monday after school when they are due.

Thank you for an awesome first term. I have had a blast so far working with all of you and learning from you too. I hope that you have learned as much as I have and had fun doing it too. Remember to advocate for your learning by talking to your teachers when you need help or have any concerns.

Remember if you saved it then when you go back in all of your information will be there.   • Finish the “Welcome to the textbook” questions for Monday November 9. Today was the last class that you had to work on them; however, I have posted the textbook as well as the question under the “Content” section of your Humanities 7-13 & Social Studies 7-16 D2L shell.
  • Continue to work on your the second draft of your memoir was we will be looking at this and working on it tomorrow.
  • Bring your novels home so that you can be reading them at home as well as during class time.

Please make sure to look at your marks for all of your classes to ensure that they are correct. I have done my best to keep them accurate though mistakes sometimes happen. The mark that you currently see, that was just updated, except for a few of you who were/are away and are still going to get work to me, is for the most part what you should be expecting on your report card. This should not be a surprise as I have been posting your marks since the third week of school and have been doing my best keep on you to get it all done and handed in.

Remember to check the current due dates for all assignments and projects as many of them have changed as I realized many of you are overwhelmed with work over the next week or so. This way you will be able to to a better more thorough job instead of just rushing through it.

  • The due date for your Italian City State project has yet again been extended as it is now due on Monday November 9. However, this also means that I am expecting them all to be done on the due date and that they will all be of a very high caliber considering you have had an extra week to work on, fix up, and complete them.
