Robotics 8A

  • Make sure that you have finished the design and planning sheet so that we can discuss it next class and you can start building. You will be expected to hand this in so please do your best work.

Robotics 8B

  • You will have two more classes to work on your final project. Please see the last post for information regarding the criteria.
  • Remember that if you are done early, or if you are interested later on you are welcome to try and design other items to be printed.

Robotics 8C

  • There is some awesome work happening with your own plans and designs for your robot. Remember that we only have two classes left after today so I encourage you to think about how much time you have left. If anyone is interested I can open up my classroom at lunch or after school on certain days to give you more time to work.

Robotics 9

  • Make sure that you are coming to class prepared with your design/plan finished so that you can spend as much of your class time as possible building and creating.
  • There are opportunities for students interested in joining a community based robotics league. If you are interested in robotics, programming, design, video editing, or other related fields please let me know so I can get your information from you to pass on to the community team.

November 15, 18, & 19

Robotics 8A

  • We began working on finishing off the NXT Checklists. Those of you there were finished start to plan your own project. Try to have this finished for next class so that you can use the most time possible to work on building in class.

Robotics 8B

  • You were given more time to work on your accessory project. It should be handed in by the end of today, November 18.
  • I introduced your final project that you will be completing over the next three classes. Your design needs to show the proper use of the following tools or skills:
  1. Line tool
  2. Freehand tool
  3. Arc tool
  4. Rectangle tool
  5. Circle tool
  6. Push/Pull tool
  7. Follow Me tool
  8. 3D Text tool
  9. Text tool
  10. Push/Pull an arc
  11. Push/Pull a rectangle
  12. Push/Pull a circle
  • Please make sure to label one example of how you used each of these tools or skills in your design.

Robotics 8C

  • You should have had enough time in class today to finish the “All About Me” Project. Remember to hand it in do the following when inside your program:
    • Click on File, Download to your computer
    • Save the file on your desktop and then upload it to Google Drive.
    • Put the file in your folder. Make sure that the name makes sense so I know what I am looking at

Robotics 9

  • Some of you finished off your reflections as many of you were missing them or did not hand them in properly.
  • You then began working on the planning/design of your own project. I recommend that you finish this for next class so that you have the most class time to work on building your bots.
  • When handing work in using Google Drive please make sure to name your files in a way that identifies what they are. For example your reflection/appraisal could be named “Robot Battle Reflection,” “EV3 Checklist Appraisal”. This makes it much easier for you and me to understand what the file actually is. If you upload a file then you need to keep the ending (.doc, .pages, .pdf, .jpg, etc) Also, if you have not read the Homework Blog posts for the last two classes please read over them as it explains how to hand in your work.

November 8, 12, 13, & 14

November 13, is a Day 7 and therefore is not a regular scheduled day.

  • Remember about what we discussed in regards to printing your object.

Robotics 8C

  • Today you started working on a Scratch assignment that is all about you. The purpose of this is to have you start figuring out some of the tools. Below are the criteria for this. You will be given more time next class and I will also show you how to share it with me.
    • At least 3 things about yourself
    • At least one clickable thing
    • An image of yourself
    • At least one movement
    • At least one custom sprite or background
    • At least one sound
    • Another way of interacting with your presentation

Robotics 9A

  • Attended the Remembrance Day Assembly

Robotics 9B & 9C

  • Today we had our epic robot battle and also the obstacle course race. I was impressed by the quality of what some of you were able to do with the time you had to work on it.
  • Remember that saving and sharing items with me is now different. If you are handing it in on Google Drive please create a folder (Name – Class; eg. JeremyL-9B), share it with me, and then simply put all of the work that you are going to be submitting in this folder. If you hand in an assignment late then please email it directly to me. Once I have checked it I will put it in your folder.
  • For next class you are to do an appraisal for the work you had done up to this point. For some of you that will be the battle or obstacle course and for others it will be the EV3 Skills Checklist. Please look at the bottom of the second page of the file that I shared with you for some guiding questions. You can get to it directly through this link if you are logged on to your CBE Google Accounts.
  • I will go over the design, appraisal, and articulation process again next class as these are important processes.

November 5, 6, & 7

Robotics 8A

Robotics 8B

  • We discussed how our designs cannot have zero thickness or else they will not print.
  • The students continued working on their duplicate projects and those that were finished began designing a personal accessory.
  • Your duplicate projects are due today by midnight. If you forget how to hand it in then please take a look at the post from last class.

Robotics 8C

  • We did the HTML Part 2 Assessment. I have not had a chance to look over it but from what I could tell I feel as though more of you were prepared.
  • We then spent some time beginning to look at Scratch. I asked you to do the basic tutorial on there so you feel more comfortable with some of the tools. You may want to create an account so that your work is saved.

Robotics 9 A

  • Today we had our epic robot battle and also the obstacle course race. I was impressed by the quality of what some of you were able to do with the time you had to work on it.
  • Remember that saving and sharing items with me is now different. If you are handing it in on Google Drive please create a folder (Name – Class; eg. JeremyL-9A), share it with me, and then simply put all of the work that you are going to be submitting in this folder.
  • Since our time today was rushed I will go over the design, appraisal, and articulation process again next class.

Robotics 9B

  • Wednesday, November 6 was take your child to work day and as a result we had very few students in class. Some students worked on their projects while others organized and sorta some of the old kits.

Robotics 9C

  • We did not get as far as I wanted so you will have about 15 minutes next class to finish your robot before we have our battle. We will continue on with the rest of our plan after that.

October 31, November 1, & 4

Robotics 8A

  • We began working on learning some basic skills and how to program the NXT robots. Next class we will be continuing where we left off.
  • Only one of you read the homework blog from last class. Remember that you need to get your Fastest Robot Reflection to me by Monday, November 4. If you are handing it in on Google Drive please create a folder (Name – Class; eg. JeremyL-8A), share it with me, and then simply put all of the work that you are going to be submitting in this folder. If you hand in an assignment late then please email it directly to me. Once I have checked it I will put it in your folder.

Robotics 8B

  • We continued to work on the Duplicate project and some of you seem to be struggling a bit. This is due on Wednesday, November 6 by midnight. If needed you can use class time on Wednesday to finish this. Please remember the new way of handing things in.
    • Create a folder in Google Drive (Name – Class; eg. JeremyL-8B), share it with me, and then simply put all of the work that you are going to be submitting in this folder. If you hand in an assignment late then please email it directly to me. Once I have checked it I will put it in your folder.

Robotics 9

  • Today you began, or continued working on your Sumobots or Obstaclecoursebots. You will have a bit of time next class to finish them but then we will be competing for the other half of the class.

October 28, 29, & 30

Robotics 8A

  • We raced our robots, and there was some tough competition. We followed this with a discussion about design since we all started with the same program.
  • I forgot to remind the class, but please complete a reflection on the fastest robot, for next class. In your reflection please think about what you think your group did well, what it needs to work on, and also reflect on your design. What worked, and what didn’t work? What would you do differently next time.
  • We have since moved on from here as we began building a new robot so that we can work through some basic skills.

Robotics 8B

  • We began working on the duplicate project in which you are trying to make a 3D copy of an item that your brought in. You are probably finding that it is much more difficult than you thought it would be. I promise that this will get easier with practice as you fine tune your skills. You will have another double period to work on this but you may want to do some work at home as well.
  • You can also download Sketchup at home for free on both MAC and PC computers so that you can work on it there as well.

Robotics 8C

  • Today students began working on learning some basic HTML programming through the CodeCademy website. Remember if you would like to signup you can do so using your CBE Google Account. Next class you will be given an assessment on the first 5 tutorials and I informed you that it would be on theory (the stuff you had to read) and the application of skills (the stuff you had to do).
  • I also showed you Hackasaurus which is a site that allows you to change the code on a website. Remember that these changes only show up for you and do not actually change the site.

Robotics 9

  • Most groups are now working on just finishing up the last sensor test. We have now started to work on our Sumobots or Obstacle Course bots.

October 23, 24, & 25

Robotics 8A

  • For next class please bring an item from home that you would like to try and make a 3D digital copy of. You will also need a ruler.

Robotics 8C

  • We began working on programming a human robot to do a simple task. However, we soon found out that simple tasks are actually rather complex when you break them up. Please make sure that this is finished by next class.
  • Some of you did not hand in your robotics reflections. Please make sure that they know get put into the “Late Assignments” folder in Robotics.

Robotics 9

  • Students continued to work on the EV3 Checklist as they explore the programming and building of the robots.

October 17, 18, & 22

Robotics 8A

  • Please make sure to check your online assessment because some of you are missing many things and you will have until the start of the next class to get them in.
  • Today was the last class given to work on your final project for 3D design and it is due by midnight tonight, Thursday, October 17. Remember that if you have not yet printed something but would like to please get me your designs in the next week or so.
