Tuesday October

8-23

  • Continue to work on your Middle Ages project. Remember to use the online reference centre and the bookmarks that I have selected for you in Diigo to help you find your information. If you find any good links please share them with me so that I can add them to Diigo so that everyone has access to them.
  • Remember that the Vertigo field trip forms are due by this Friday, October 12.
  • October Scholastic Book orders are due this Friday, October 12.

9-27

  • Continue to work on your editorial / political cartoon. If you are stuck go back and look over the handouts that I have given you and you may want to try labelling political cartoons again using the website that we looked at in class.
  • October Scholastic Book orders are due this Friday, October 12.
  • Please think about sharing more and taking the sharing and feedback that we are doing more seriously as this is often one of the best and most effective ways of growing as a student.

Robotics 9A

  • Remember that you can download Alice at home by following this link. It is free and works on both Mac and PC platforms.

Friday October 5

October Scholastic Book Orders are due on Friday October 12.

8-23

  • Continue to work on your Middle Ages project. Remember to check out the links that I have provided to you. You can get there by going to the Learning Commons, For Students, and then TB Bookmarks, or you can just follow this link.
  • Vertigo Field Trip forms are due on Friday October 12.

9-27

  • For Tuesday please have your poem about poetry finished. The three questions I asked you to think about were: What is poetry? What does poetry mean to you? and What do you know about poetry?
  • Also, please come up with some ideas, using the handout, about what you could create your editorial/political cartoon on.

Thursday October 4

8-23

  • It is great to see so many of you getting into your books. Remember that when you are reading at home to spend at least 20 minutes doing this without an interruption or else you will find it difficult to get into your story.
  • I would recommend that you are finished the Middle Ages Worldview chart for tomorrow so that you can move on and start planning for your research
  • A number of you have asked about your “First Writing Assignment.” Yes, I am assessing it, and to be honest I have been able to finish yet as things, such as life, have been getting in the way. I will do my best to have them done for your on Tuesday.

9-27

  • It was awesome to see some of you getting into the poetry and taking a risk to share your expressions. If you did not finish your poem today please work on that at home. Here is a link to information about the Def Jam Poetry Slam.
  • Think about a topic that you could use for your Editorial Cartoon. I also understood that some of you were a bit bored with looking at political cartoons or felt that it was dragging on which is why I switched it today. However, I would like you to stand up for your learning and let me know when you want to try something different, are bored, find the work too easy or too hard, or if you have another idea about how to approach the learning. I will try my best to help all of you be engaged with what is going on.
  • Please remember to bring your books tomorrow as you will be given time to read.

Wednesday October 3

If you would like to order October the Scholastic book please have the forms back to me by Friday October 12 so that I can get the orders in early. Remember that if you are writing a cheque that it should be made out to Tom Baines School, not to Scholastic.

8-23

  • Today we started looking at the worldview of the Middle Ages. If you feel as though you are behind you may want to use the online textbooks to get caught up.
  • Remember your reading material for tomorrow.

9-27

  • If you had difficulty with analyzing the political cartoon from today then you may want to try doing another one from the MacKay site. Check the link I put in yesterdays post or go to the TB Bookmarks in the Learning Commons.

Tuesday October 2

8-23

  • Make sure to have your paper people ready for Life Skills tomorrow as you have had two weeks to complete these.
  • If you did not have time during “The Gods Must be Crazy” to fill in the worldview chart please try and do this tonight so that you are ready for tomorrow.

9-27

  • I was disappointed with your lack of effort on the peer feedback work we did today. The purpose of this is to expose you to different levels of work and for you to be able to explore the quality of your own work with respect to others. By giving your classmates feedback you are not only helping them become better learners, you are also improving your own learning.
  • You will have a bit of time tomorrow to continue to work on analyzing the political cartoon. If you would like to work on this at home you can view all of the items by going to the Diigo by following this link, or by going to it through the Learning Commons. The questions are under the heading “Cartoon Analysis Worksheet,” and the cartoon is under “Mackay – Canadian Editorial Cartoons”

Monday October 1

8-23

  • I would like to thank the majority of you for being prepared today with your reading material.
  • We will take a look at your quick write tomorrow. Check out this link to view it again.
  • Tomorrow we will also continue watching “The Gods Must Be Crazy” as a way of finishing off our introduction to the elements that affect worldview.

9-27

Friday September 28

8-23

  • Please remember your novels for Monday’s class.
  • It was great to see the ideas that you came up with about how to re-arrange the classroom. I also like how we all started working together.

9-27

  • I have been having a great deal of fun with all of you lately. I appreciate the challenges and the fact that you feel comfortable enough to speak up.
  • If you did not finish the referencing practice that is okay. However, I encourage you to feel comfortable with doing this as I know expect you to be able to do this from now on. I would recommend that you get help with doing this from websites such as Citation Machine.

Robotics 9

  • Thank you for all of the hard work you put in today with organizing all of the pieces of the RCX kits. We will finish this off next class. I was also able to get everything up and working on the computers so we will be able to start programming soon.

Thursday September 27

8-23

  • Tomorrow you will be given one period of class time to finish your writing assignment

9-27

  • We will continue working on referencing the items in class tomorrow.
  • From the rants I saw I was very impressed overall. Thank you to those of you that were willing to share your rant with the entire class.
  • Remember that tomorrow is Friday so you should have your reading material with you.
