Wednesday May 9

I was shocked by how many students were not aware of the missing assignments that they had when I handed out missing assignment sheets. Many of these assignments were from February and early March. I would like to remind all students and parents/guardians that it is your responsibility to check the homework blogs and online marks to ensure that you are keeping up with your work.

Tuesday May 1

It is hard to believe it is already May. Some of you seem to be a bit worried as the last eight months has been a blur and you don’t have much to show for it while some of you are excited and ready for the next step in your educational carear. Either way we have two months left so please work on making the most out of it.

I have updated the marks to reflect what has been handed in as yesterday. I am a bit behind in my assessment as I was away last week with the Grade 9 students in Quebec but at least this way you will know what is missing.

7-01

  • By the end of tomorrow you should be finished your annotated bibliography for the Truth and Torture project. Please work on this at home if you are behind. If you are finished this then go on to the next step. Remember that you are using the primary sources to try and figure out what actually happened as historians still don’t really know.
  • Remember to bring your novel tomorrow as many of you have been forgetting.
  • Continue to write poems or improve on the poems that you have already written.

8-04

  • Next Reading Response is due tomorrow.
  • Continue to work on your role for the Trial of Hernan Cortes. It has been great to see some of you getting into this though there seems to be a number of you that are either confused or just choosing not to do any work. Please talk to me if this is you so that we can figure out how to move forward.
  • Continue to work on writing your short stories. We will discuss the due date of your first draft tomorrow. If I forget please remind me.

Monday April 30

7-01

  • Work on your poetry. If you have not written much I encourage you to spend some time writing.
  • Make sure that your group is where it should be for the “Truth and Torture” project.

8-04

  • I was very disappointed that Miss Stell needed to talk to the class about their attitudes and how they will take them far or prevent them from going anywhere. This was done as a way of hopefully helping some of you realize how you are approaching your learning. It was a shame that she felt that this was the best way to spend her last class with you as today is her last day. I hope that some of you took this to heart and will seriously think about how you have been acting this year and encourage more of you to stand up and advocate for your learning instead of being a bystander.
  • Narrative leads for your short story should already be finished
  • Reading Response is due on Wednesday May 2
  • Start working on Roles for Trial of Hernan Cortes – you will have the rest of this week to do that and possibly some time next week depending on how this week goes.

Wednesday April 19

Please remember that I am away next week on Grade 9 trips; however, things will go on as normal. I am not sure which teacher or substitute will be covering my class but I expect that they are shown the same respect that I am.

Hopefully most of you have booked student led conferences so that your children can show off their learning and some of the amazing work that they have done so far this year.

7-01

  • Remember that your plot chart for your Literature Circle novel is due on Monday April 23.
  • Next week you will be continuing independent reading (remember your novels as we are finished the Literature Circle books), poetry, and the Truth and Torture project that you were introduced to today.

8-04

  • Next week you will be continuing to work on your short stories, starting with narrative leads, independent reading, and the questions for the Trial of Hernan Cortes project. There will be alternative activities for the few students that are choosing not to participate in the Trial.
  • Please come prepared and remember to use your class time wisely.

Monday April 16

7-01

  • Be ready to present your monologue tomorrow. Remember to rehearse a number of times and think about how to enhance your performance by including, props, costumes, or even an accent.
  • Lit Circle journal entry is due on Wednesday April 18, and your plot chart is due on Monday April 23.

8-04

  • Remember your novels for tomorrow
  • You will be given some time to start some of the preliminary work for the Trial of Hernan Cortes tomorrow. Start thinking about which roles you would like to apply for as we will be doing this on Wednesday.
  • For those of you that have not yet finished your character questionnaire or your plot chart for your short story please work on this as it should already be done. You will need it on Wednesday so make sure you are finished.
