Thursday May 31

7-01

  • Today we began looking at our final project by thinking about a topic or theme that would be used for the project. This would be a good time to look over the first page that was given to you so that you have a better idea about what you will be doing over the next few weeks.

8-04

  • If you have not already done so I encourage you to look over the project and to take a look at the worldview charts in both textbooks. Remember that you are to find information that will help you create your artifact based on one or two of the elements of worldview. However, it may be easier to first do some basic research so that you can decide which element(s) of worldview would be easier for you to focus on. Wednesday May 30

Tomorrow is PJ day and Friday is Tabloid Day.

7-01

  • Very impressed by what I saw from your Passionate Poetic Perspective projects, even if they were brief. I was even more impressed with the poems that you wrote. You should be proud of what you have done and also more willing to show off.

8-04

  • Second draft and published copies of short story is due tomorrow. There is no reason that is should not be in by then.
  • You were given your final Social Studies project today. Beginning tomorrow we will be working on it during one period each day. The project is due on Friday June 15 as you will be presenting your work to the class that day.

Monday May 28

All marks are updated based on work received as of Friday May 25.

7-01

  • Tomorrow will be the day that we listen to the Truth and Torture radio plays as well as present your Passionate Poetic Perspectives. Remember that you will be sharing one of your perspectives with the class and two of the other three will be shared in small groups. However, you need to be able to hand in all of your work. So, if you are doing a skit, a song, or something else that needs to be watched or listened to you will either need to put it in the D2L dropbox, put it on a memory stick, or burn it to a cd/dvd.

8-04

  • Make sure that you are read up to the appropriate spot in your novels for the literature circle discussions on Wednesday.
  • Tomorrow you will be given time to make changes to your second draft so that you are able to create a published copy. This should be enough time as you have already typed up your work. This second draft and published copy are to be handed in on Thursday May 31.

Wednesday May 23

8-04

  • You will need the second draft for your short story printed off for tomorrow’s class because you will be given time to proofread and edit your work. You will be handing in your first draft by the end of the day tomorrow so that I can assess it and give it back to you for feedback. You were given at least 70 minutes of class time to type up your second draft. The average typing speed is 19 words a minutes when composing or coming up with original ideas, which you were not being asked to do, and more then double that for transcription, or copying out work. So if the average typing speed in our class was 10 words a minute then you should have been able to type up a story of at least 700 words. Just something to think about.

Tuesday May 22

7-01

  • I have extended the due date for the Truth and Torture project to Friday May 25. Before class starts on this day you need to have exported your play out of GarageBand and uploaded it to D2L. I went over this in class so if you are not sure what to do please ask a friend or come and talk to me. We will be listening to these on this day.
  • Passionate Poetic Perspective has now been delayed until Tuesday May 29.

8-04

  • Remember to have your pages read, role prepared, and your vocabulary ready for the literature circle discussions tomorrow. You will be handing in the work that you did for this discussion.
  • Today you were given time to start typing your short stories and creating your second draft. You will also be given one period tomorrow. Some of you are behind, very behind and I can not wait for you to catch up any more. Please also check the online marks as I have updated them to reflect your planning. Read over the comments as you might find them helpful as you work on your second drafts. Make sure to hand in your first draft by the end of the day, 4:00, Wednesday May 23. I will be in the Learning Commons after school so if you do not hand it in during class time please come find me to hand it.

Wednesday May 16

  • Passionate Poetic Perspective Project – Presentations on Monday May 28
  • Truth and Torture – Last day to work on it is Tuesday May 22. We will be sharing this in class on Thursday May 24.
  • Reading Response was due today.

8-04

  • We will be having our discussion for the literature circles on Wednesday‘s beginning next week. This means that you will need to have your roles ready for this time. We are providing you with plenty of time to read in class and you should also have time to work on / complete your roles and any of the other assignments associated with this.
  • Short Stories – First draft needed to be completed on Monday, though less than one third of the class had it finished. Today we were working on peer editing and proofreading and this will continue tomorrow. On Tuesday and Wednesday next week you will have time to make the necessary changes and type your second draft.
  • All planning for your short story (brainstorming, character questionnaire, plot chart/graph, and two narrative leads) is due tomorrow Thursday May 17.
  • We will begin the Social Studies final project on Wednesday May 30.

Monday May 14

  • We will also begin Literature Circles tomorrow.

Thursday May 10

7-01

  • Please have your script finished for tomorrow as I asked for this to be completed for Tuesday so some of you are already three days behind.
  • Monday we will be working on the poetry project so make sure to look over the assignment that was handed out today.

8-04

  • Overall, I was impressed by the effort that many of you put into the trial. It was clear those of you that got into your role as you seemed much more confident and presented yourself much better.
  • Tomorrow and Monday we will be working on the first drafts of your short stories. We will see how people are doing tomorrow and will discuss the new due date then.
