Make sure to look over the rubric so that you know how you are going to be assessed and also make sure to read over the assignment sheet so that you are aware of everything that is required of your role. Please make sure that the rough copy of your persuassive essay is ready to go for Tuesday’s class as we will begin editing and proofreading it then. It is important to remember to start doing some homework as many of you are only using class time and minimal time at that.

- After discussing the persuasive essay with many of you, you feel that I am giving you too much time. Therefore, please have the rough draft of your essay ready to go for Tuesday February 23’s class as you will be peer editing and proof reading others work.
- You will have Monday and Tuesday’s class to continue all required research for your portion of the Trial of Hernan Cortes. Therefore, we will begin our Trial on Wednesday February 24. Please make sure that you have read what is required of you so that you are ready and that you have also looked over the rubric so that you understand how your learning will be assessed.

If everything goes well the report cards will be handed out on Monday February 22. There have been some updates on the report card system with the Calgary Board of Education that has caused a few issues that are trying to be resolved in time. Once the report cards go home I will update the marks to reflect the current term.

I have been typing up your comments so that you can view them when you look at your marks online; however, I am concerned that many of you are not reading these comments as you are not coming to talk to me and many of your responses are not showing a great deal of improvement.
For each response you are given almost two weeks to gather your information and write your response. Many of the responses I have been reading seem very rushed and appear to have been done in haste. This is not acceptable and please remember that they count for 20% of your Humanities grade each term as I use them to both assess your reading and comprehension as well as your writing.

- By the end of class on Tuesday February 9 you should have the majority of the body on your persuasive essay completed. We will be doing a workshop on conclusions on this day which will give you some time to contemplate how you would like to approach yours over your five day weekend.
