I am rather disappointed with the lack of students bringing home the novels they are reading in class to continue them at home. Roughly 1/2 of the students are only reading their book in class. I am hoping that many of those students that are leaving their book in the class do so because they are reading another book at home. If this is you, you may want to consider trying to choice one book that you bring back and forth between school and home if it is not you then start bringing your book home to read it there too. If you need help selecting a book come and talk to me and we will find something that works for you.

7-13 & 7-16

• I think that most of you have figured out the communication issue with the First Contact activity and you should now be working on coming up with a solution to question two. I will not provide solutions for questions 2,3 & 4 like I did with question 1 because they should be much more manageable as long as you work well with your group.

8-CHA

• You should have already finished the general Italian City State notes from the textbook so if you have not yet done so please get them done, now, as in tonight. You should be using the chart that I gave you to organize your notes so that they they are easy to understand.
• It is über important that you read through your assignment and look at the requirements. Remember that you are an Italian City State Official trying to encourage trade and commerce with your city. This is how you should be directing your project.

I just wanted to say thank you to all of my students as Ms. Campbell, the substitute teacher, said that everyone was well behaved and that she had a great day. It is always nice to come back to school after being away to hear that. You are an awesome bunch of students, so thank you.

Bend Sinister is coming on Friday at 1:00 to put on a free show for our school. Hopefully all of the teachers will bring their students to watch this performance. Remember to take a look at their website and vote for them.

The only way to get better and reading is by doing more of it. Try to remember the information I shared with you in the beginning of the year about the importance of reading and how it can help you perform better in all of your subjects

• Your next Reading Response Journal is due this Wednesday October 21.
• Continue working on your Italian City States project. I will be giving you another class to look over and collect notes from both texts books. Remember the point of this portion of the project is to get a general idea of how all of the city states worked. You are to be finding the important and main ideas in the information not writing down everything. If you are unsure of how to do this please talk to me.

• Please make sure that you do not share you scenario with anyone because this will wreck the First Contact activity. We will continue this one Tuesday because on Monday we will be finishing looking at the artifacts.

• Continue thinking about your Italian City State project. Now that you know which city you will be exploring you could start finding out information. Make sure to look over the assignment sheet and rubric so that you are doing what is expected and so that you are able to get good grades. Remember to look at the Hum 8-CHA D2L shell for the textbooks.
